Set up the Mews Connector app for your Demo property

If you're currently undergoing the onboarding/implementation process with Mews, and/or need to do some testing with the Mews Connector app, for example, with key cutters and the Mews kiosk, you can do so in the Mews Demo environment.

In this article you can learn about how to set up Mews Connector app for your demo property:

Step 1: Connect the Mews Connector integration

Connect the Mews Connector  integration from Marketplace as you would do in the Live environment.

  1. Go to the main menu Screenshot_2.png > Marketplace > Facility management > Mews Connector integration.
  2. Click Explore. Then click Connect integration.

Step 2: Download and install the Mews Connector app

  1. Once you connect the integration, in the Mews Connector screen, click on the download icon in the top right corner
  1. Then, install the Mews Connector app in the computer that you want to use as a server for your external devices, such as the key cutters, printers, terminals, etc. Make sure to enable "write" permissions, not only "read".

Note:

  • Please note that this computer needs to be up and running at all times. Closing the Mews Connector app or turning off the computer stops the connection between Mews and your devices.
  • Read more about the Mews Connector application for Windows here.

Step 3: Configure the Mews Connector app

  1. After installation, open up the Mews Connector application. Click on the "gear" icon > Settings.
Note: The first time you open the app, the settings window opens automatically, but you can also access it by clicking on the top right corner "gear" icon as seen below.

  1. Now find your Access token. Go to Marketplace > My Subscription > Mews Connector, click the key icon in the upper right corner and copy the Access token.
  2. Paste the token in the "Access token" field in your Mews Connector application.

By default, the Mews Connector Windows app is set up for the live environment, so you need to:

  1. In the "Advanced settings" of the Mews Connector app, change server URL to https://api.mews-demo.com
  2. Then click Save

  1. If your key cutter software communicates with Mews using the FIAS protocol, complete the following fields in your FIAS settings:
  • Fias Server Port - Enter the port number of your door lock application (e.g. for Kaba integrations, use 8265).
  • Client Mode - Enable this if you're using a Kaba key cutter integration.
  • Enabled - Select this since you're using FIAS.

How to know if your key cutter uses FIAS: You know that your key cutter software communicates with Mews using the FIAS protocol if:

  • during the setup of your key cutter integration in Mews Operations, you entered { "Type": "FiasProtocol" } into the Data JSON field; or
  • during the setup of your key cutter integration in Mews Operations, you entered { "Type": "AmbianceClient" } into the Data JSON field (Dormakaba Ambiance uses a variant of FIAS)
You can find a list of currently supported FIAS key cutters here.
