Managing product modifiers in Mews POS

Sometimes, bars and restaurants need to make a distinction between the same item types without creating new products or new variations.  We can do this by using modifiers.

The modifier does not have to affect the price, nor it will be visible on the invoice, but it will certainly make a difference to the bar/kitchen staff, and what matters most to all of us, to the customer.

For example, you can use modifiers to:

Make temperature variations:

Product:
coffee with milk

Modifiers:
cold milk
warm milk

Add a side dish or side item(s):

Product:
steak

Modifiers:
seasonal salad
potatoes
green beans

Product:
tequila

Modifiers:
straight
lemon & salt
orange & cinnamon

Exclude something from a regular order:

Product:
chicken salad
Modifiers:
without dressing
without onions
without croutons

You can create two types of modifiers:

  • Single
A single modifier type limits you to only one option per item (e.g. steak temperature)
  • Multiple
You can select as many options as you wish, like in the example below, in this case, you can define the minimal or maximal number of options to be selected (e.g. ice cream add-ons)

Mews POS enables you to:

Modifiers will not be printed on invoice receipts unless an additional charge applies to them.

Note: At this moment, it is not possible to track modifiers in the inventory.
