Enable automatic card preauthorization for an existing payment policy in Mews Operations

You can temporarily hold funds for future charges, such as no-shows, deposits, or incidentals by preauthorizing a credit card in Mews Operations. In addition to manually creating a preauthorization, you can configure your property’s payment policies to automatically create a preauthorization for reservations. This means you can preauthorize payment cards automatically, without charging them. This helps your property to securely manage payments with less manual intervention. You can enable automatic preauthorization for existing payment policies in your property’s Payment policies settings.

Note

  • You can schedule a preauthorization to trigger based on your rate group configuration, for example, 1 day, 14 days, or up to 28 days.
  • By default, Mews sets the preauthorization expiry date 24 hours after your property's configured check-out time.
  • The maximum preauthorization expiry period is 28 days. If your property automatically creates a preauthorization for a reservation which is more than 28 days in the future, the preauthorization expires after 28 days.
  • Stripe or Adyen may override the expiry period if there is a difference between your property’s expiry period and the payment processor’s. The system then applies the soonest expiry date.

To enable automatic card preauthorization on an existing payment policy:

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu > Settings > Policies.
