The PMS code of a product category is the code your Property Management System (PMS) uses to identify that category. You set the PMS code on the Categories page in the Mews POS web dashboard, so the revenue from the category posts to the right place in your PMS and in your accounting. You do this when you create a category or when you need to change its code.
What the PMS code is:
The PMS code is the code your PMS uses for the category. Mews POS uses it to map the category to your PMS. In the PMS configuration, you then map the PMS code to an accounting category, so revenue posts to the right place in your accounting. A category without a PMS code posts its revenue to None in your PMS.
Note
- You need the Manager or Admin role to create a product category.
- You need the Admin role to add or change the PMS code of an existing category.
- If your PMS is Mews, the PMS code is required when you create a category. A manager can enter it during creation, but only an admin can change it later.

How to set the PMS code when you create a category
-
In the Mews POS web dashboard, go to Products > Categories.
-
Click Add. The New category dialog opens.
-
In Name, enter a name for the category.
-
In the PMS code field, enter the code your PMS uses for this category. You can enter up to 32 characters. For example, a code such as food_beverage uses only letters and an underscore.
Note: This field is required if your PMS is Mews. If your property uses another PMS integration, you can create the category without a PMS code.
-
Click Create.
How to change the PMS code of an existing category
You can change the PMS code of a category at any time. The change affects future postings only. Revenue that Mews already posted does not change.
-
In the Mews POS web dashboard, go to Products > Categories.
-
Locate the category name, then click Edit.
-
In PMS code, enter the code your PMS uses to identify this category. You can enter up to 32 characters.
Note: This field is required if your PMS is Mews. If your property uses another PMS integration, you can save the category without a PMS code.
-
Click Save.
PMS code format
Follow these rules when you enter a PMS code:
-
Use up to 32 characters.
-
Use only letters, numbers, and underscores.
-
Do not use spaces.
-
Do not use special characters, such as the slash, asterisk, apostrophe, double quote, or percent sign.
-
Do not use accented letters.
Note: Codes that do not follow these rules can break the PMS mapping and cause revenue to post to None.
You can now set the PMS code for a product category in Mews POS. This means revenue from the category posts to the right place in your PMS and in your accounting, rather than landing against None.
