How to set up your Mews Terminal A4

Mews Terminal A4 is an unattended payment terminal that you use to process secure payments in self-service environments such as kiosks. You set up the terminal when you install a new device and want to start processing payments in Mews Kiosk. Learn more in our help article How to connect and set up Mews Terminal for Kiosk. You complete the setup by mounting the device, connecting it to your network, and preparing it for use in your self-service environment.

Prerequisites for the setup

To use Mews Terminal A4, you need:

  • Mews Kiosk

  • Mews Payments active on your Mews account. Note: If Mews Payments is not active on your account, contact your Customer Success Manager.

  • At least one Mews Terminal A4, you can purchase this via the Mews Marketplace by searching for Mews Terminal 4. Note: You can also contact your Customer Success Manager to purchase.

 

Step 1: Check the packaging and the terminal for damage

When you receive the terminal:

  1. Verify that the shipping box is unopened and the security seal is intact.

  2. Open the box.

  3. Verify that the serial number on the terminal matches the serial number on the box, and that it matches the serial number in Mews. To verify the serial number:

    1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu Main menu in Mews Operations  > Marketplace.

    2. Find the Mews Payments - Terminals integration and click Edit to go to the Settings page.

    3. Under Payment terminals, you can find the serial number.

  4. Use the track and trace link to confirm that the carrier marks the terminal as delivered.

  5. Inspect the terminal for tampering. Check for missing screws, additional wires or labels, holes in the device, or anything inserted into or attached to the terminal.

If any of these checks fail, contact Mews Support immediately and do not use the terminal.

 

Step 2: Mount the terminal and connect cables

You mount the terminal in your self-service device and connect all required components.

To mount the terminal:

  1. Install the terminal in the front panel of your kiosk or self-service machine.

  2. Follow the installation instructions from your device manufacturer and the terminal manufacturer.

To connect the cables:

  1. Connect the MDB harness cable to the back of the terminal.

  2. Connect the cable to the power supply and optional audio output.

  3. Connect the Ethernet cable directly to the terminal.

  4. Connect the cellular communication antenna to the terminal.

The terminal powers on after you connect it to the power supply.

 

Step 3: Connect the terminal to your network

You connect the terminal to the internet so it can communicate with the payments platform.

To connect to Wi-Fi:

  1. On the Welcome screen, tap to select your language.

  2. On the setup screen, tap the arrow button.

  3. On the setup Wi-fi screen, tap the + to add a network.

  4. Tap the wireless network (WLAN) slider switch.

  5. Tap your network from the list or add it manually.

  6. Enter the network password.

  7. Tap OK.

The terminal connects to the network and displays a Wi-Fi icon at the top of the screen.

To update network settings later:

  1. Tap Settings > Network.

  2. Enter your passcode.

  3. Tap Wi-Fi.

  4. Turn Wi-Fi on or off or add another network.

Note: Mews Terminal A4 includes a pre-installed SIM card. The terminal switches to a cellular connection if the internet connection fails.

 

Step 4: Rename your terminal

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu Main menu in Mews Operations > Marketplace.

  2. Find the Mews Terminals integration and click Edit to go to the Settings page. The system displays a list of terminals with the serial numbers.

  3. Click a serial number and enter a name for the terminal, for example, Front Office 1.

  4. Click Save.

 

This completes the setup of your Mews Terminal A4. You can now take payments on the terminal.
