Some stay settings are relevant to the Timeline. Configure your stay settings in Mews Operations to manage your hotel’s inventory and correctly show bookings on the Timeline. This lets you:

  • Charge guests correctly and ensure rooms are ready at the correct time,

  • Automate certain tasks, such as confirmation emails, payment requests and scheduling, so you can streamline and organize your hotel operations.

How to view or edit your stay settings

To view or edit your stay settings:

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu image.png > Settings > Services

  1. Click on your stay service

  1. In the General Settings section, you can see the following options relevant to the Timeline:

Reservation assignment strategy

Choose how Mews assigns new reservations:

  • Bottom up: To assign new reservations starting with lower room numbers first.

  • Top down: To assign new reservations starting with higher room numbers first.

  • Random: To assign rooms at random, ensuring that all rooms receive the same number of bookings.

Note: If you have a lot of business travellers, then Mews recommends against this setting, as it spreads groups all over the hotel.

Availability calculation strategy

Choose how overbookings impact your availability:

  • Diffusive: If you want overbookings in lower space categories to take availability from higher space categories. This option helps prevent overbooking your whole property.

  • Discrete: If you want overbookings to affect only the availability of the overbooked space category. This option increases the risk of overbooking your whole property.

Note: For both options, you still need to manually resolve overbookings.

Occupancy overview using the Timeline

Click on the image.pngFilter icon and choose a bookable service for which you want to check the occupancy. For example, choose your stay service in the Select service filter and choose Month in the Select view drop-down at the top of the Timeline.

You can now see an overview of your reservations longer than two weeks. You can also view your future reservations.

To view future reservations:

  1. Select the time unit Months to show the Timeline in months, giving you an overview of the year ahead.

  1. You can move ahead on the Timeline by a year by clicking the image.png forward arrow on the menu bar.

  • For long-stay services, this gives you a quick overview of the gaps in occupancy at your property for any chosen month.

  • This helps you plan your promotions or special offers to create business opportunities in periods of low occupancy.
