The Mews Compliance Suite helps German properties meet their accommodation tax and e-invoicing obligations. In Germany, it includes Tax Automation, Tax Intelligence, e-invoicing through Peppol, and the XRechnung integration. Mews also offers a separate TSE integration for the KassenSichV cash register regulation. You purchase the Compliance Suite once from the Mews Marketplace and then choose which features and integrations to use.

Tax Intelligence
Tax Intelligence is a dashboard and report in Mews Operations under the main menu > Finance > Tax Intelligence. It shows the accommodation taxes you collected and the exemptions you applied, and gathers the data you need for your declaration in a document you can export.
- Dashboard: person nights, both taxable and exempt, a breakdown of tax collected by rate, and a month-by-month trend.
- Monthly report: tax collected, occupancy, including room nights, person nights, and arrivals, and accommodation revenue split into taxable and exempt.
- Exemption log: exempt stays, guests, and person nights grouped by reason, with a line for each guest.
- Flexible and exportable: filter by week, month, quarter, or a custom period, and export to PDF or Excel.
Note: Tax Intelligence exports the data but does not submit your declaration. The report only includes stays where all bills are closed. Each stay is counted in the month of check-out.

Tax Automation
Accommodation taxes in Germany, such as the Beherbergungssteuer, a city tax, or the Kurtaxe and Kurbeitrag, a resort tax, are set by each city or municipality, and the rules change often. Tax Automation generates the right tax configuration for your property and keeps it up to date.
- Set up in minutes: In Mews Operations, go to the main menu > Settings > Property > Finance > Tax Configuration, open the Tax automation tab, and enter your address, latitude and longitude, and property details. The star rating and category, such as 4 stars Superior, matter most, because they can change which taxes apply.
- Configuration generated for you: Mews works with a specialist tax data provider to find the taxes that apply to your property.
- Always up to date: when a tax authority publishes a change, your rates update automatically. You do not need to check anything manually.
You can watch a short overview in the video Tax Automation in Mews.
E-invoicing through Peppol
Germany is phasing in mandatory e-invoicing for invoices between German businesses. All businesses have had to be able to receive e-invoices since 1 January 2025. The Peppol fiscal registry integration has been available in Mews since 1 October 2026 and is part of the Compliance Suite, alongside Tax Automation and Tax Intelligence.
Note: If you already use Peppol e-invoicing in Mews, nothing changes for you. Your integration and its configuration stay exactly as they are, and you keep sending e-invoices as you do today.
- Sent automatically: when you close a bill or issue an invoice to an eligible company, Mews sends it through Peppol in a format legally equivalent to XRechnung.
- Businesses and public bodies: for public bodies, Mews includes the buyer's Leitweg-ID.
- Status on screen: check whether each invoice was delivered in Mews Operations under the main menu > Finance > Fiscal record report.
Key dates:
| Date | Who must send e-invoices |
|---|---|
| 1 January 2027 | Businesses with an annual turnover above EUR 800,000 |
| 1 January 2028 | All other businesses |
What you need to do:
- If you already use Peppol in Mews: nothing. Your setup carries over as it is.
- If you do not use it yet: set up the Peppol integration in the Marketplace. Add each customer's VAT ID, the USt-IdNr., to their company profile and, for public bodies, the Leitweg-ID.

The XRechnung integration
The Compliance Suite also includes the XRechnung integration, which lets you issue company invoices in the XRechnung XML format that German public bodies require. You can download the XML file from the invoice and upload it to the government portal, and Mews attaches it to invoice emails.
- Public bodies and businesses: apply the XRechnung format when you issue a company invoice.
- Works with Peppol: if you use both integrations, they work together without conflict.
You can learn more in our help article Issuing company invoices as XRechnung files using the XRechnung integration.
The TSE integration for KassenSichV
Germany's cash register regulation, the KassenSichV, requires every bill and invoice to be recorded and signed by a certified technical security system, a TSE. Mews offers the German fiscal registry integration, which does this automatically through Fiskaly, with no extra hardware.
Note: The TSE integration is offered by Mews but is not part of the Compliance Suite subscription.
- Signed automatically: every bill or invoice you close is recorded and signed by the TSE.
- Fiscal data on the bill: Mews adds the TSE signature data to the bottom of each bill or invoice.
- Exports for audits: Download the encrypted TSE export from your Fiskaly dashboard.

Disabling Tax Automation
You can disable Tax Automation at any time. Disabling it does not stop your Compliance Suite subscription, and the other integrations in your Compliance Suite stay unchanged.
- Your configuration is deleted. Your accommodation tax rates are no longer updated automatically, so you need to check and update them yourself in Mews Operations under the main menu > Settings > Property > Finance > Tax Configuration. Tax Intelligence stays available in Finance as long as the Compliance Suite is active.
- To enable it again, open the same Tax automation tab and set it up again as you did the first time.
To stop paying, delete the Compliance Suite from the Marketplace. To learn how the Compliance Suite works and what to check before you make a change, see Managing the Mews Compliance Suite.
