Tiered price hierarchy in Atomize RMS by Mews FAQ

The tiered price hierarchy in Atomize RMS by Mews is a flexible pricing structure that groups your room types into tiers. You use it in Atomize when you want to price similar room types independently within a tier, while keeping a clear and logical price difference between tiers. You typically work with tiered hierarchies when Atomize optimizes your pricing setup.

In this article, you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions:

Note: The tiered price hierarchy only applies to properties onboarded to Atomize in 2025 or later. If you wish to change your price hierarchy to static, you can contact Mews support.

What is a tiered price hierarchy?

A tiered price hierarchy groups your room types into tiers. Atomize prices room types individually within each tier and keeps each higher tier more expensive than the one below.

For example, if “Single” sits in Tier 1 and “Family” in Tier 3, Family always remains more expensive than Single. Double and Twin in Tier 2 move freely in price depending on demand, but both stay between Single and Family.

Note: Atomize always uses tiered logic, even when each room type sits in its own tier. This setup looks like a strict hierarchy but functions the same way.

Why does my property use a tiered price hierarchy?

Atomize assigns a tiered hierarchy automatically when your property’s historical data supports it. If your rooms behave similarly from a revenue perspective, grouping them into a tier helps the system optimize each one independently.

You may already use a tiered hierarchy if:

  • Your onboarding happens in 2025 or later.
  • Your room types show similar demand or pricing behavior.
  • The system identifies an opportunity to improve revenue with more flexible pricing.

Note: You do not choose the hierarchy type yourself.

How does a tiered hierarchy differ from a strict hierarchy?

A tiered price hierarchy and a strict price hierarchy both define how Atomize controls your room prices.

  • In a strict price hierarchy, each room type follows a fixed price order.
  • In a tiered price hierarchy, room types within the same tier move independently, without a fixed internal order.

You use one hierarchy type at a time. Atomize does not combine them.

Note: Tiered hierarchy replaces strict hierarchy when assigned. It does not layer on top of it.

How does a tiered hierarchy work?

For properties onboarded with Atomize from 2025, Atomize creates the hierarchy automatically during onboarding by analyzing your property’s historical prices. You do not create or adjust the tiers yourself.

In a tiered hierarchy:

  • Atomize prices room types in the same tier independently.
  • Atomize keeps higher tiers more expensive than lower ones.
  • Each room type has a minimum and maximum price.
  • Atomize applies a tier offset to maintain a clear price difference between tiers.
  • The same logic applies to all pricing controls—default, seasonal, and hierarchy overrides.

Note: Tiered hierarchy is a global setting. You cannot disable it for specific price controls.

What are the benefits of a tiered hierarchy?

  • Flexibility: Room types in the same tier respond freely to demand.
  • Revenue optimization: Atomize maximizes each room type’s earning potential without fixed price constraints.
  • Clear structure: Prices always follow a logical order across tiers.
  • Consistency: Tiered logic applies to default pricing, seasonal pricing, and hierarchy overrides.

For example, you may have two similar room types that target different guest segments. Atomize prices each one based on its performance at a given time—something a strict hierarchy does not allow.

How do room types behave in a tier?

  • Room types in the same tier change price independently.
  • Atomize does not fix their price order.
  • Their prices may cross depending on demand.

For example, Twin and Double sit in the same tier. On some days, Twin costs more than Double. On other days, Double costs more than Twin. Both always stay more expensive than Single and cheaper than Family.

Note: Atomize does not use minimum prices to determine tier placement. A room type with a lower minimum price may still belong to the same tier as a more expensive one if they perform similarly.

How do you edit a tiered hierarchy?

You cannot move room types between tiers. If you need to change a room’s tier, contact Mews Support.

You can edit pricing rules for each room type:

  1. In Atomize, go to Settings.
  2. Select Price hierarchy.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Adjust the minimum and maximum prices for each room type.
  5. Change the tier offset if needed.

Note: You manage pricing boundaries and offsets in the interface, but only Mews Support can change a room’s tier.

How does Atomize assign tiers?

For properties onboarded in 2025 or after, Atomize assigns tiers automatically based on:

  • Historical price patterns
  • Similar revenue behavior
  • Optimization performance

Note: Atomize can create as many tiers as needed based on your property’s data. There is no fixed limit.
