If you create a new additional service, guests won't be able to purchase the service or any attached products when they make their reservation. Guests would have to purchase the additional service or product on-site and you then need to manually add it to the customer's bill in Mews Operations.

If you want customers to be able to purchase something with their reservation, you need to create a product that's attached to a bookable service such as your stay service. You can learn more about bookable services and how to set them up here

Create an additional service

If you require setting up accounting categories for all additional services and products and enabled in your accounting configuration settings, you need to create all of the accounting categories related to the additional service before you create the additional service itself.

  1. Go to the main menu Screenshot_2.png > Settings > Services.
  2. Click the + button and select Additional service
  3. Enter the name of the additional service, for example, Room service.
  4. Enter the price and select the tax rate that you want to apply. When you set up a price, you need to also set up the currency.
  5. Set up all accounting categories.
  6. Enter all other details. See the table below for a detailed explanation of the fields.
  7. Click Create.
 

Explanation of fields

Field

Description

Name

Enter a name for the service, for example, Room service.

Short name

Enter an abbreviated name for the service for reports, where space is limited.

Description

Enter a short description of the service.

Ordering

Choose the position you want your stay service to occupy in a list of your property's services.

Currency

Enter the currency you want Mews to settle the service in.

Amount

If this service includes additional items, this is the service fee in addition to the cost of each item. If you do not wish to charge an additional service fee, you can leave this field blank.

Tax rate

Select the tax rate you want Mews to apply to the price of this service.

Options

  • Select Bill as package if you want Mews to merge the products attached to this service together on one line of the bill, instead of listing each product on a separate line.
  • Select Has configurable business segment if you want users to assign a segment when they create a new reservation in Mews Operations.
  • Select Has expanded bill items if you want Mews to list items individually on bills, instead of being grouped.
  • Select Has overridable price if you want employees with billing permissions to be able to override the standard price of a product.
  • Select Has overridable tax if you want employees with billing permissions to be able to override the standard tax rate of a product.
  • Select New orders automatically processed if you want Mews to automatically process new orders without requiring manual confirmation from an employee.
  • Select Offer to employee if you want Mews to list the service on the customer dashboard so that employees can add it to bills.
  • Select Order generates email if you want orders to trigger an automatic email notification for the relevant departments.
  • Select Order generates notification if you want orders to trigger an automatic Mews Operations notification for the relevant departments.
  • Select Order requires a segment if you want to prevent guests from ordering products from this service until they have a segment attached. Note: For this option to work, there should not be a default segment already assigned. If there is a default segment already assigned, you do not have to assign a segment when adding an order.
  • Select Order requires completed notes if you want to prevent guests from ordering a service until they add notes. For example, if a guest wants to order your taxi service, they need to first add the time and location of their arrival.
  • Select Orderable only with products if you want to prevent guests from ordering a service without attaching products. For example, if you have a service called 'Room Service', guests can't order the service on its own. They need to order a product from within 'Room Service', for example, 'Steak and Salad'.

Responsible employee

If there is one particular employee who manages this service, select that individual from the drop-down list.

Responsible department

If there is one particular department that manages this service, select that department from the drop-down list.

Accounting category

Select an accounting category for this service.

Rebate accounting category

Select an accounting category for rebates of this service.

Canceled item accounting category

Select an accounting category for this service if it's canceled.

Promotions

Choose when you want to offer the product to guests through the Mews Kiosk or upselling integrations. Note: If you want to offer this service to guests checking in online or on the Mews Kiosk, select Before check-in.

 

Delete an additional service

When you delete an additional service, Mews deletes all the products attached to it. 

Deleting an additional service doesn't affect any data already collected for that additional service or its attached products.

  1. Go to the main menu Screenshot_2.png > Settings > Services.
  2. Click on the additional service you want to delete.
  3. Click the image.pngdelete icon.
  4. Confirm by clicking Delete.
