Once a guest creates a reservation, it can pass through many different sources before it arrives in Mews. Sources can include:
- First source: A more general source, the largest booking channel relevant to the reservation. This could be a Global Distribution System (GDS), or a larger OTA, for example, Expedia.
- Second source: A more specific source which narrows down the general source. This could be a sub-group of the more general source, for example, Expedia collect.
- Travel agency: A precise source, usually a smaller travel agency. This could be a corporate travel agency, for example, AmEx Travel.
You can track your reservation sources in the following two ways:
- One source tracking:
- Mews attaches only one source as the travel agency to the reservation.
- To determine the source Mews uses, you can map the source you want to track the most.
Note: Mews can automatically create company profiles and their corresponding travel agency contracts when the channel manager provides them. You can learn more about this in our article for setting up travel agencies.
- Enable more granular reporting: Select this option in your integration settings:
- if you want the system to automatically log reservation sources that channel managers send, including distribution sources: GDS, CRS, etc.
- Once you enable it, the reservation source details displays all source types that Mews receives.
Note: Mews enables this option by default for new integrations for accurate reporting on installation.

One source tracking
When Mews attaches a source to an incoming reservation, the system lists it as the Travel agency in the Reservations management screen as seen below.
The way that Mews chooses the source to automatically attach as the travel agency to a reservation depends on the channel manager integration you use, so the use-cases differ slightly.
Note: Before you can map your sources, you need to create a company profile and a corresponding travel agency contract for each of them.
If you have a D-Edge, SiteMinder, SynXis or Amadeus iHotelier connection
If a reservation contains multiple booking sources, Mews automatically attaches the most specific one to the reservation in the system. in order to make sure that you obtain the most precise report. Therefore, Mews recommends you map all your booking sources.
If reservations come through a Global Distribution System, Mews only attaches a travel agency. In these cases, Mews recommends you map the second source to ensure you get the most detailed information of the source. You can contact your channel manager support for a full list of second sources from your Online Travel Agency.
If you have any other channel manager connection
Mews automatically attaches the most general mapped source to your reservations, so if they are all mapped then you can only see the first source attached to reservations, and not the specific travel agencies. Therefore, Mews recommends you only map the most specific sources to ensure that you get the most precise reporting.
Note: Some channel managers can send reservations with both the company, i.e. the guest's place of work, and the attached travel agency. Contact your channel manager to know whether they support this.

Enable more granular reporting
Select the Enable more granular reporting option in your integration settings.
Mews then attaches all sources to an incoming reservation, the system lists them as the Reservation source in the Reservations management screen as seen below.
Once you switch on the Enable more granular reporting option, Mews logs reservation sources sent from channel managers.
Note: After you enable the option, and depending on how the partner communicates the reservation message, specific sources logged as Travel Agency display as Source. The change means:
- No reservation price adjustments and
- No commission estimate tracking directly in Mews since Sources do not support this.
You can use the Reservation sources report to make informed decisions regarding future distribution investments.
Note: The Reservations sources report is currently only supported by D-Edge, Siteminder, Synxis and Amadeus iHotelier.
