Before you can start using Mews POS, you need to create the products you are selling to your customers. You can add products using the product import template. This is an Excel sheet you can download directly from the Mews POS web dashboard.
You can also include allergen and dietary restriction information in your product data, helping staff identify suitable options for guests and build menus more efficiently.

How to complete the product import templates for your sellable products in Mews POS
Step 1: Fill in the sellable product table
To fill in the sellable product table, you need to download the Product Import Table.
To do so:
- Log in to pos.mews.com, then navigate to Products > Products.
- Next, click
and select Download template.
- Open the file in a spreadsheet application, for example, Microsoft Excel.
- Complete the sheet using the fields below. Note: If a field is not listed, you do not need to complete it.
Product details
- Product name: Enter the product name as it should appear in the POS app and on the guest’s invoice.
- Product category: Add the product category for reporting.
- Kitchen name: Enter the name that should appear on kitchen tickets, if it needs to be different from the product name.
- Regal code: Enter the ASTORE code, if applicable.
- SKU: Enter the stock keeping unit, if applicable.
- Barcode: Enter the barcode, if applicable.
Guest-facing information

Description: Enter the description as it should appear on your menu. Note: This is visible to your guests if you are using the Digital Ordering feature.
Dietary information
Adding this information allows staff to quickly identify suitable options in the POS, and more easily create menus using dietary filters.
- Allergens: Enter applicable allergens using the following supported values only: Celery, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Gluten, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Soybeans, Sulphur dioxide/ Sulphites.
- Dietary restrictions: Enter applicable dietary restrictions using the following supported values only: Dairy-free, Egg-free, Gluten-free, Halal, Kosher, Locally sourced / Sustainable, Low-carb / Keto, Low-sugar / Diabetic Friendly, Nut-free, Organic, Pescatarian, Vegan, Vegetarian.
Note:
- Only these values are supported; using any other tag prevent the table from uploading correctly to Mews. You need to use correct formatting and commas (,) when adding multiple restrictions.
- You can see allergens and dietary restrictions, translated to the default language of your POS account, both in the worksheet and in the POS Back Office. You can change the language in your system preferences.
Selling options
- Make available for sale: Enter TRUE or FALSE.
- Price: Enter the price, no currency symbol, including VAT.
- Promotion price: Enter a promotional price if applicable.
- Sales tax: Select the applicable tax.
Variants (optional)
- Variant - Option name: Enter the variant type, for example, size.
- Variant - Option values: Enter the option values along with their prices. Always use the following format, for example, Small-7.90, Medium-10.90, Large-12.

Save the spreadsheet file.
Step 2: Upload the sellable product table
To import the Product Import Table:
- Log in to pos.mews.com, then navigate to Products > Products.
- Next, click
and select Import Products.
- You can then either drag and drop your file or click Browse file to upload it.
Import results: there are two possible outcomes after the import:
a. Successful import
If the products import correctly, you can see a summary showing the number of rows that are Inserted, Updated, and Ignored.
b. Import with errors
If some products do not import correctly, an error message displays. You can also see details indicating which rows failed and the reason for each error.
Review the highlighted issues in your file, make the necessary corrections, and upload the table again. Note: In this case, none of the products upload until errors are resolved.
