How to create a sellable product in Mews POS

Mews POS classifies products into three categories: sellable, inventory tracked, and purchasable. Sellable products are items in your inventory that are available for guests to purchase. This includes products like food, drinks, and snacks. When you configure a sellable product, it appears within the Mews POS Android application. Staff can access it when taking orders, and guests can view it in digital ordering. You can also define dietary information to help staff respond confidently to guest needs and build more tailored menus.

 

To create a sellable product in the Mews POS web dashboard:

  1. Click Products.




  1. Click   to add a new product.
  2. In the Add new product side window, enter the following details:

  • Tile label: The system generates this name automatically but you can rename it. Note: Mews POS displays the tile label in the app product list and in the app shortcut grid.
  • Tile color: Click a tile color to select it, or click Select a file to upload and add a custom image. This image is visible in the app shortcut grid. Note: Mews POS recommends using a square 100x100 pixel image.
  • Product name: Enter the name of the sellable product.
  • Product Category: Click the drop-down to select an existing category or create a new one by clicking + next to the drop-down. The system now groups the product by category within digital ordering.
  • Kitchen name: Enter an alternative name for your product. This name appears on printed bar or kitchen tickets.
  • Allergens and dietary restrictions: Add relevant dietary details to the product. This helps staff quickly respond to guest questions. This information is also visible in the POS Android app during ordering.
  • Sellable: Click the slider switch to make the product available for sale in the invoicing module on your smartphone or tablet. This enables the product for sale via the Mews POS Android application and digital ordering. When you enable it, multiple options are available to configure:
    • Price: Enter the price you charge for the product. Note: Leave the price field empty to enable a variable price. When you enable a variable price, you enter the price at the time of sale.
    • Promotion price: Enter a sale price for products you want to include in a promotion. The app makes the product available for sale with the new sale price.  Note: The app displays the original price in strikethrough format and the sale price in regular format.
    • Sales taxes: If you account for the tax is in the price, click the slider switch to enable a specific tax rate. Note: Under Settings, enable the All taxes are included in my prices slider switch.

    • Saleable family: Click the drop-down to select which product family the product falls under.
    • Saleable subfamily: Click the drop-down to select which product subfamily the product falls under.
  • Additionally, you can also configure:
    • SKU: Enter the  Stock Keeping Unit code if you use them for your business.
    • Barcode: Enter the product barcode if you use a barcode scanner.
    • Weight: Enter the weight of the product in kilograms if you sell the product by weight.
    • Description: Add a product description for your guests to see. This is visible next to the product in digital ordering.
    • Modifiers: Click the slider switches to enable any modifiers.
    • Composite product: Click the slider switch to enable a composite product if this product uses components.
    • Variants: Click Add Variants to add multiple variants of a product.
    • Search engine listing review: Click Edit Details to enable. When you enable it, multiple options are available to configure:
      1. Page title: Enter the title of the webpage for this product
      2. Meta description: Enter the meta description for this product.
      3. URL and handle: Enter the URL for the webpage of this product.
    • Purchasable product: Click the slider switch to make the product directly purchasable when you create orders for deliveries. Configure the following options:
      1. Unit: Click to select the unit you use when you purchase the product. For example, if you buy a package of wines with 10 bottles and a bottle is 0.7L: 
        • If you purchase the wine in liters, then the purchase unit is Liter.
        • If you purchase by bottle, then the purchase unit is Bottle.  
      2. Purchased Quantity: Enter the actual purchase quantity. This is the number of product items. In the above example it is 10.
      3. Total price: Enter the unit price the provider charges for the number of items. 
      4. Single product unit: Enter the unit of measurement for one single item. In the above example:  
        • If you purchase the wine by liter then it is 0.7.  
        • If you purchase by bottle, then the single item unit is 1.  
      5. Purchase taxes: Select the VAT for the Purchase unit by clicking the appropriate slider switch. 
    • Track inventory: Click the slider switch to enable inventory tracking for this product. Note:  Mews POS does not recommend you configure an inventory tracked product as directly sellable. Create a sellable product distinct from an inventory tracked product, and link it to the relevant inventory tracked product. You can learn more about Inventory tracked products here.
    • Automatic conversion: Click Add to enable unit conversion.

 

  1. Click .

 

The product is now available for sale and appears in the product list and on the shortcut grid. You can restart your Mews POS Android app to see your new products.
