How to set up your Mews Terminal
Step 1: Check the packaging and the terminal for damage
When you receive the terminal:
- Verify that the box containing the terminal is unopened.
- Open the box.
- Check the terminal and ensure there is no damage. If you notice that the terminal or box is damaged, immediately contact the Mews support team.
Step 2: Quick start your terminal
Note: If the terminal displays a message about boarding or self-boarding, contact the Mews support team before continuing with the following steps.
To quick start your terminal:
- Use an outlet or ethernet dock to charge the terminal. To connect to the reader, plug the provided cable into the USB C port.
- Once the terminal charges fully, hold down the power button until the screen turns on.
Step 3: Connect the terminal to your Wi-Fi network
Note:
- The system requires you to only use secure Wi-Fi connections for all internet-enabled payment devices.
- It is important you connect your Mews Terminal to password-protected Wi-Fi networks that leverage either WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal encryption.
- If you connect your Mews Terminal S2 device to a public Wi-Fi network, the payment provider disconnects you, preventing you from processing payments.
You need to connect the Mews Terminal S2 to the same local network as Mews. To connect your terminal for the first time:
- The Choose network screen appears automatically when you turn on the terminal for the first time. Tap a network to select it.
- Enter your network password.
- Tap continue.
Note:
- Attempting to join a new network disconnects the terminal from any existing wireless connection.
- Mews Terminal S2 does not support non password-protected networks, enterprise networks and IPV6 networks.
Step 4: Add your terminal to Mews
When you connect the terminal to Wi-Fi for the first time, the terminal will automatically display the Register this reader screen and display a code. To add your terminal to Mews:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace > My subscriptions.
- Find the Mews Terminal integration and click on Edit to go to the Settings page. Note: The default integration name is Mews Terminal.
- Click Payment terminals.
- Click + Payment terminal, then enter the following details:
- Under Name , enter a unique name for the terminal.
- Check the Install Mews POS application on this device box to enable it.
- In Mews Operations, enter the code from the terminal in the Pairing code field.
- Click Create. Note: After this step, the terminal displays a series of update messages.
The terminal welcome screen displays and indicates that the updates are complete.
Step 5: Connect the Mews Terminal to Mews POS
Once you complete the above steps, restart the terminal. The device boots into Mews POS. Note: This can take up to 10 minutes.
- Log in to Mews POS.
- In Mews POS, go to the main menu
> Settings > Card reader.
- Tap Find Card Reader.
- The Select card readers screen appears. Tap the name of your Mews Terminal S2. Note: The default name is the name you enter during registration.
