You can upload your financial planning data in Mews Business Intelligence to compare planned performance with actual results. You use budget, forecast, and historical data to track targets, update projections, and analyze past performance across your property or portfolio.
In Mews Business Intelligence, the following terms are defined as:

Budget: Planned yearly targets
- Forecast: Updated projections
- Historical data: Past performance
For example, you can use forecast data to compare expected revenue with actual revenue during the same period.

- Business Intelligence provides curated dashboards only. For full customization functionalities, upgrade to Business Intelligence Pro, purchasable as an add-on in the Mews Marketplace.
- Data refreshes in Mews Business Intelligence every two hours.

How to upload your budget, forecast, and historical data to Mews Business Intelligence
Step 1: Access Budget, Forecast, and Historical data

In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Budget, forecast and history.

Select Manage on Budget, Forecast, or Historical data.
- Each section shows a list of available years
- Budget and Forecast display five years (previous, current, and future), and you can upload historical data from the previous 5 years.
You can now manage your financial planning data.
Note: You only see this section if you have the required permissions.
Step 2: Download the Excel template
- Open the list page for your selected data type, for example, Budget
- Find the relevant year.
- Click
download template.

Select to download one of the following options:
- Segment template
- Space category template
- Use the segment template to break data down by business segment
- Use the space category template to break data down by space category
You can now prepare your data using the correct format.
Step 3: Complete the Excel template
Open the downloaded file and complete the Monthly sheet.
- Enter values for each month
- Add data per segment or space category
- Review calculated fields such as ADR, occupancy, and RevPAR
For example, room revenue calculates as ADR multiplied by room nights.
Note: If you leave required fields empty or change the structure, the upload fails.
Step 4: Upload your data
- On the list page, find the relevant year.
- Click Upload.
- Select your completed Excel file.
- Confirm the upload.
- The system validates the file
- The status updates to Uploaded after a successful upload
- Errors appear if the required data is missing or incorrect
Note: You must complete the template correctly before uploading, or the system returns an error.
You can now upload your financial data to Mews Business Intelligence.
Step 5: Manage your uploaded data
After uploading, you can manage your data from the same list page. Once you upload and activate your data:
- Mews Business Intelligence processes the data
- Data becomes available in dedicated dashboards
Note: Data appears in dashboards within approximately two hours after upload.
You can now compare planned and actual performance.
After upload, your data appears in:
- Budget Detailed Performance
- Budget Forecast Overview
- Multiproperty with Budget
These dashboards help you analyze financial performance across time periods and properties.
Overwrite a file
- Click
for the year.
- Click Overwrite.
- Upload the updated file.
Note: The system replaces the existing file only if the upload completes successfully.
You can now update your data for that year.
Delete a file
- Click
for the year.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm the action.
The status resets to Not uploaded, and the data disappears from dashboards.
You can now remove data from Mews Business Intelligence.
Download a file
- Click
for the year.
- Click Download.
You can now access the latest uploaded file.
Activate or deactivate a year
- Locate the relevant year in the list.
- Click the Active slider-switch to activate or deactivate a year:
- Active = data appears in dashboards
- Inactive = data does not appear in dashboards
Note: You can only activate a year after uploading a file.
You can now control which data appears in your dashboards.
Troubleshooting upload issues
Your upload may fail if:
- Required sheets or columns are missing
- Numeric fields contain text
- The template structure has changed
- Values are incomplete
Note: The system shows an error message explaining what needs to be fixed.
