If properties already have local accounting categories set up, you can link them to a central category instead of creating new assignments from scratch. This is useful when migrating from property-level management to portfolio-level management.
Before you can link existing local categories, you need to add an accounting category key to each one. If your properties have many local categories, you can add these keys in bulk using an Excel file.

Map accounting category keys using an Excel file
Use this step to add accounting category keys to multiple local categories at once before linking them to a central category.
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Mapping > Accounting categories.
- Download the mapping file.
- Fill in the accounting category keys in the file.
- Upload the completed file.
Once you add the keys, you can link those local categories to a central accounting category using the steps below.
Note: You can learn more about the mapping file in Import and link existing services in Mews Multi-Property.
Link existing local categories to a central category
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Mapping > Accounting categories.
- Open the three-dot action menu on the central category row.
- Select Link existing.
- Enter the accounting category code to search for matching local categories.
- Click Scan. The dialog lists every property whose local category with that code is not yet centrally managed.
- Select the properties you want to link.
- Click Save.
The system processes the linking in the background. Once complete, the local categories are centrally managed.
