Mews Guest Journey is the guest-facing layer of the Mews operating system. It covers the Mews Booking Engine for direct bookings on the property website, the Mews Guest Portal for online check-in, upsells, and online check-out, the Mews Kiosk for lobby self-service check-in and check-out, and the Mews Digital Key and Mews Guest Messaging. Together, these allow your guests to book spaces and arrive at your property, communicate, spend, and depart with minimal front desk involvement.

01 Get started
1.1 Prerequisites
Mews Operations must be live. Mews Payments is required for all payment steps in the guest journey, such as booking payments, preauthorizations, kiosk payments and online check-out settlement.
Digital Key additionally requires a supported door lock integration.
1.2 How onboarding works
-
Booking Engine: Configure branding, rates and product visibility in Mews Operations, then embed the Booking Engine on the property website.
-
Guest Portal: Configure the check-in form, mandatory, optional and hidden fields, terms and signature step, upsell products and email templates; enable online check-out.
-
Kiosk: The property sources tablet hardware. See hardware requirements in Section 03, installs the Mews Kiosk app and pairs each device to the property via QR code from the Kiosk settings page in Mews Operations. Payment terminal and key cutter are connected where used.
-
Digital Key: After arranging installation with the property’s door lock provider, the property can issue digital and wallet keys directly through Mews so guests can bypass the reception desk.
-
Guest Messaging: Guest messaging is activated for guest portal channels; after adding property information, additional channels like SMS and WhatsApp can be enabled, and responses can be automated with AI.
1.3 Indicative activation timeline
Booking Engine and Guest Portal: typically configured within the standard Mews Operations onboarding, with no separate activation period.
Kiosk: dependent on the property sourcing hardware; configuration and pairing take hours once devices are on site.
Digital Key: Timeline depends on the door lock integration.
1.4 What the Partner needs to provide
-
Website access to embed the Booking Engine, plus brand assets, such as logo, colors, imagery and content
-
Kiosk hardware: Mews does not supply tablets, stands or enclosures. See Section 03 for device requirements
-

-

04 Deployment & Updates

|
Deployment type |
Mews-managed cloud. The Kiosk app is installed by the property from public app stores, such as the Apple App Store and Google Play, on property-owned devices. |
|
Deployment regions | |
|
Environment types |
Production and Demo/ sandbox. In the Demo environment, Guest Portal links can only be delivered to Mews' email addresses; full guest journey testing is done with a test reservation in production. |
4.2 How updates are delivered
Booking Engine and Guest Portal: Continuous deployment by Mews with no Partner action.
Mews Kiosk:
-
App updates are published to the Apple App Store and Google Play. Properties are responsible for keeping all kiosk devices on the current version.
-
Kiosk configuration data is cached on device; cache refresh timeframes: 15 minutes for kiosk configuration and exchange rates, 24 hours for enterprise settings and service documents.
4.3 Update cadence
Feature releases: Continuous for web surfaces; Kiosk app releases ship regularly via the app stores.
Security patches: As required, applied by Mews without advance notice.
4.4 Does the Partner need to do anything after an update?
No Partner action for Booking Engine and Guest Portal updates.
For the Kiosk, the property must update the app on every kiosk device when new versions are released; running an outdated Kiosk version is the most common cause of kiosk faults and the first support troubleshooting step.

09 Guest Messaging Specific Terms
9.1 Guest Messaging
Guest Messaging gives your property a unified inbox to send and receive guest communications across one or more messaging channels, including SMS and WhatsApp and any other channel Mews makes available from time to time (each a Communication Channel). Guest Messaging is powered by one or more subcontractors (Third-Party Providers). The Third-Party Providers for current channels are identified in sections 9.4 and 9.5 below. Mews may add, change or remove Communication Channels, features or functionality of Guest Messaging at any time for development, security, performance, legal, regulatory or operational reasons. Mews may also terminate, limit or suspend Guest Messaging in specific countries without prior notice where this results from changes in laws, regulations or requirements imposed by telecommunications providers, channel providers or other Third-Party Providers.
9.2 AI-assisted features
Guest Messaging may include automated or AI-assisted features for processing, analysing and responding to communications. Use of these features is subject to the Mews Acceptable Use Policy. You are responsible for reviewing any AI-generated output before acting on it.
9.3 Fees and Usage
Fees for Guest Messaging depend on the Communication Channel, the direction of communication (inbound or outbound), the recipient's country and the pricing model that applies to your account. Current pricing is displayed in your account settings within the Mews platform.
Guest Messaging fees may be charged on a usage basis (billed in arrears), under an allowance-based package, or under any other pricing model as communicated to you. Where an allowance-based package applies:
-
Monthly Package Allowance means the value of credits available to you each month under your package.
-
Price per Unit means the cost per unit of communication (including per SMS segment or other messaging interaction), per country, as communicated to you, which is deducted from your Monthly Package Allowance.
-
Top-Up means an additional credit amount applied automatically once your Monthly Package Allowance is reached, where you have enabled it.
-
Spend Cap means the maximum amount of Top-Ups you can set in your account beyond your Monthly Package Allowance.
Mews may offer trials, promotional credits or similar offers in respect of Guest Messaging. Any such offer is one-time and non-recurring unless stated otherwise, non-refundable and non-transferable. Where an allowance-based package applies, a trial or credit does not replace your standard allowance, and once consumed, standard pricing applies
9.4 SMS
SMS is operated using Twilio Inc. or another affiliated Twilio entity (Twilio). By using Guest Messaging — SMS, you agree to comply with the Twilio Terms of Service at https://www.twilio.com/en-us/legal/tos. Twilio may process personal data of you and your guests, including as an independent controller; details are set out in the Twilio Privacy Notice at https://www.twilio.com/en-us/legal/privacy.
Where you purchase an allowance-based SMS package, that package represents your Monthly Package Allowance. Any unused allowance may roll over to subsequent months to the extent and for the period communicated to you.
If you reach your Monthly Package Allowance, an automatic Top-Up can be set in your account. You can set a Spend Cap to restrict Top-Ups up to the maximum amount communicated to you.
US Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging. To send SMS to a US number, you must comply with applicable US rules governing Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging. By purchasing Guest Messaging — SMS for US numbers, you authorise Mews to register your brand and campaigns with the relevant US authority on your behalf and consent to Mews sharing the necessary business and representative details for that purpose. Registration fees are not deducted from your Monthly Package Allowance. These payment obligations are non-cancellable and non-transferable, and paid fees are non-refundable.
Regulatory restrictions. Not all properties can register a number in their country for outbound SMS. Where registration is not available, a shared fallback number is used. Sending messages to some numbers may require A2P registration, which is managed from within the Mews platform.
9.5 WhatsApp and other channels
WhatsApp and certain other Communication Channels are operated using Meta Platforms, Inc. or its affiliates (Meta) and/or other providers Mews may use from time to time. By using these channels, you agree to comply with the applicable third-party terms, including the Meta/WhatsApp terms at https://www.whatsapp.com/legal
Connection of your WhatsApp account to Mews and to Twilio as our subprocessor is subject to Meta's approval. You can only send a message to a guest using a registered Meta message template. Meta determines the classification of each template and the charges that apply. Fees for WhatsApp and other channels under this section are as communicated to you and may vary by channel, direction of communication and recipient country.
Meta and other providers under this section may process personal data as independent controllers. You are responsible for informing your guests about such processing and for providing them with the applicable privacy notices.
