Recurring Payments in Mews Operations automates how you charge guests on a monthly basis. It uses billing automation to generate bills and payment plans that charge a guest’s stored payment method at regular intervals. This helps you save time, reduce manual billing work, and make sure payments are collected consistently.
Each plan is linked to a billing automation rule. When a reservation matches the rule’s conditions, Mews allows you to create a payment plan directly from the guest profile. The guest provides a payment method through a secure payment link, and once confirmed, the system automatically charges it based on the plan’s schedule.
Note
- Recurring Payments only works when billing automation is configured with monthly timing, routing to the guest profile, and grouping all items into one bill.
- Please check your local legal requirements before proceeding with the below steps.

What are the prerequisites for using Recurring Payments?
To use Recurring Payments, you must create a billing automation rule that meets all of the following conditions:
- Timing is set to monthly
- Target profile is set to guest
- Grouping is set to group all moved items on one bill
Note: If these conditions are not met, the option to create a payment plan does not appear in the guest profile.
How do I create a recurring payment plan?
You can learn how to create a payment plan in our How to set up Recurring Payments for automated monthly charges in Mews Operations help article.
How does the guest provide their payment method?
The guest receives an email with a secure payment link. Depending on the setup, the guest either:
- Enters a payment method only, or
- Pays an amount and stores the method at the same time.
Both actions store the method for future use in the payment plan.
What happens if the guest does not submit a payment method?
The plan status remains Planned until the guest provides a valid payment method, or until the payment plan payment request expires. No charges are made, and the plan does not activate. To resend the plan, you must cancel the plan and create it again.
How do I know if the plan is working?
Once the guest submits a valid payment method:
- The plan status updates to Active
- The payment method appears in the guest profile and the payment plan details screen.
- Mews begins charging the method according to the schedule you defined
You can track plan status in the Recurring section of the guest’s Payments tab.
Can I change or cancel a recurring payment plan?
It is not possible to edit a payment plan.
You can cancel the plan at any time or cancel the scheduled payment for a bill. This stops all future payments. You can learn how to cancel a plan in the help article: How to cancel a payment plan using Recurring Payments in Mews Operations.
Note: Cancelling a plan does not remove the guest’s stored payment method.
Is there a report for recurring payments?
You can track recurring payments using the Payments report in Mews Operations.
- Go to Main Menu
> Finance > Payment report
- Use the Recurring payments filter to view all charges and payment requests related to payment plans
This gives you:
- An overview of all guests with active or pending payment plans.
- An overview about payment plan related payments.
- Visibility into payment request statuses, so you can infer whether the guest’s payment method was successfully captured.
You can also locate a list of all Planned and Active payment plans in the Billing automation details page:
-
Go to Main Menu
> Operations > Billing automations
-
Locate the billing automation you wish to view and click
> View details.
-
