Understanding service level overbookings in Mews Operations

Service level overbooking in Mews Operations is a way for revenue managers to control overbookings at the service level, rather than for each room category individually. You use this feature when you want to apply a strategic overbooking approach across your entire stay service while avoiding the risk of overbooking specific, sensitive categories like suites. You set up service level overbookings in the Availability and Occupancy report when preparing for periods of high demand or expected cancellations.

Approaching overbooking limits

When the system approaches the service level limit, Mews automatically adjusts availability to prevent overbooking:

• As you book spaces, physical spaces are booked first (32) and the counter on the left (0/2) is booked after.
• An adjustment icon appears in the availability cell to indicate that Mews has made the adjustment automatically.
• The original adjustment remains visible but the system disables it.
• You cannot manually override an automatic adjustment.

Note: The cell above appears when the system automatically adjusts the availability.

Reaching overbooking limits

Once the number of overbookings equals the service-level limit, the system does not allow any additional availability. In this case:

• Mews shows a warning and disables any adjustments that would exceed the limit.
• You cannot add new adjustments until you increase or remove the limit.

Note: The warning above appears when you reach the overbooking limit.

How to update availability after reaching limit

1. In Mews Operations, go to the Dashboard and click Availability & occupancy report.
2. Click the Availability tab, then click Adjust availability.
3. In the new side-window:
   • Under Stay, click + to increase the overbooking limit.
   • Under Adjustment, click + to increase or – to decrease the availability of specific space categories.
4. Click Adjust availability.

This updates your availability.
