Front desk staff and night auditors use Mews Operations to open and close cashier shifts by setting and resetting balances at the start and end of a shift. This process ensures financial accountability, security, and accuracy in property operations. Before you can open a cashier shift, you need to create cashiers.
To open a cashier shift in Mews Operations
- In Mews Operations,
- go to the main menu
> Finance > Cashier, or
- click Cashier on the Dashboard.
- go to the main menu
- Click the name of the cashier you want to open.
- Click Add transaction.
- In the side-window, fill in the following details:

- Currency*: Click to select the currency of the cash you add to the cashier.
- Type of transaction*: Select Receive.
- Value*: Enter the value of the transaction.
- Notes* Enter a description of the starting balance.
- Click Save.
Note: If you try to close the modal with unsaved changes, Mews prompts you to confirm.
This opens the cashier shift.
