The Mews Connector application for Windows is a software application that you install only once at your property to communicate with devices such as printers and key cutters. It is a Windows application for communication between Mews servers, which are in the cloud, and the applications or devices at your property, which are not accessible over the internet from outside the property. After installation, the Mews Connector application starts to run automatically once the computer it is running on is switched on and a user is logged in. It won't start if it's not logged in.
For a step-by-step guide on how to set up the Mews Connector application, both in Mews Operations and on a computer at your property, you can follow the Set up the Mews Connector app article.
In this article you can learn the following about the Mews Connector application for Windows:
How does it work
- The Mews Connector application "listens" for WebSocket events, i.e. notification of new device commands that come from the Mews server in the cloud. For example: Send a document to print, forward a command to a key cutter.
- Once it gets a notification, Mews Connector fetches the device command from the Mews server.
- The Mews Connector application then executes the commands.
- It then confirms the execution back to the Mews server, to update the status of the device command.

- If you add more devices in the Mews Connector app integration, Mews recommends that you always restart the application.
- This also applies if you update some device(s) you created in Mews. For example, if you add a printer in the Printer integration, or a key encoder in the Key cutter integration.
Settings
- Access Token*: You can locate this in the Mews Connector integration.
- IP Address: The application fills this field in automatically. It is the same address that you find when you type "ipconfig" into the command prompt. You do not need to take any action.
*Note: Remember that you need to use each Mews Connector integration access token on one Mews Connector application only.
Advanced Settings & FIAS settings
- Advanced settings: This does not require action from you. Tick this box only if you are switching between different Mews environments. For example, "Mews Connector app set-up for demo" - only Mews and integration partners would use this.
- Fias settings: Tick this box to open the settings, if you are connecting a key cutter that communicates using the FIAS protocol. Click "Enabled". Note: If you are connecting a Dormakaba key cutter, then you need to also select "Client mode".
