How to bulk update allergens and dietary restrictions in Mews POS

In Mews POS you can update all your products at once using an Excel file containing your products called the Product template. You download the product template from the Mews POS web dashboard, and you use it to update the details of multiple products. This can be useful when changing the details of multiple products on your menu, for example, including allergens and dietary restrictions.

How to bulk update allergens and dietary restrictions in Mews POS

To bulk update products in Mews POS:

Step 1: Export your product list

  1. In the Mews POS web dashboard, click Products. 
  2. Click three dots icon .
  3. Select Download XLSX in the Export Products section.

Note: You can also update the allergens and dietary restrictions on products directly.

  1. Open the downloaded file using a spreadsheet editor, for example, Excel.
  2. In the product import template file, add the Allergens and Dietary restrictions, as required: 
  • Allergens: Enter applicable allergens using the supported values only, for example, Celery, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Gluten, Lupin, Milk, Molluscs, Mustard, Nuts, Peanuts, Sesame, Soybeans, Sulphur dioxide/ Sulphites.
  • Dietary restrictions: Enter applicable dietary restrictions from the following list: Dairy-free, Egg-free, Gluten-free, Halal, Kosher, Locally sourced / Sustainable, Low-carb / Keto, Low-sugar / Diabetic Friendly, Nut-free, Organic, Pescatarian, Vegan, Vegetarian.

Note:

  • Only these values are supported; using any other tag will prevent the table from being uploaded to Mews. Formatting requires commas (,) to be used when adding multiple restrictions
  • You view allergens and dietary restrictions translated into the default language of your POS account, both in the worksheet and in the POS Back Office.

Adding this information allows staff to quickly identify suitable options in the POS and create menus using dietary filters.

  1. Save the edited file. 

Step 2: Upload the sellable product table

To import the product import table:

  1. Log in to pos.mews.com, then navigate to Products > Products.
  2. Click three dots icon .
  3. Select Import Products.
  4. You can then either drag and drop your file or click Browse file to upload it.

There are two possible outcomes after the import:

a. Successful import
If the products import correctly, you can see a summary showing the number of rows that are Inserted, Updated, and Ignored.

b. Import with errors
If some products fail to import, an error message appears. You can also see details indicating which rows failed and the reason for each error.

Review the highlighted issues in your file, make the necessary corrections, and upload the table again. Note: In this case, no products upload until you resolve the errors.

Possible import errors include:

  • Allergen: “Wrong allergen” does not exist.
  • Dietary restriction: “Wrong dietary restriction” does not exist.
