By default, a dependent rate inherits its tax settings from the rate it is based on. In Mews Operations, you can override this and set a unique tax configuration directly on a dependent rate. This is useful when different rate plans apply to guest categories with different tax requirements, for example, when non-taxable guests book at a rate that requires a different tax setup from the base rate.
When you set a custom tax on a dependent rate, you must configure all tax fields. You cannot partially override tax settings. If you do not set a custom tax, the dependent rate always inherits tax settings from its immediate parent rate.
Note
- Tax settings apply to the base price only. They do not apply to specific dates or room types.

How to configure a custom tax on a dependent rate in Mews Operations
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
>Services > Stay > Rates.
- Navigate to the pricing grid
.
- Click on the edit
alongside the dependent rate you want to configure.
- Open the Tax tab.
- Click to enable the Inherit taxes from parent rate toggle. Note: This toggle is only available on dependent rates.
- Complete all tax fields as required.
- Click Save.
Note: You must configure all tax fields when overriding tax settings. You cannot leave individual fields blank or inherit only some fields from the parent rate.
The dependent rate now uses its own tax configuration independently of the parent rate.
Revert to inherited tax settings
To remove a custom tax override and revert a dependent rate to inheriting tax from its parent rate:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Services > Stay > Rates.
- Navigate to the pricing grid
.
- Click on the edit
alongside the dependent rate.
- Open the Tax tab.
- Click to enable the Inherit taxes from parent rate toggle.
- Click Save.
The dependent rate reverts to inheriting tax settings from its parent rate. If the parent is itself a dependent rate, the settings are inherited from that rate, not necessarily from the base rate.
View tax override status in the rates overview
The rates overview table includes a column that indicates whether a dependent rate has a custom tax override. You can filter and sort by this column to see which rates use a custom tax configuration.
