How to configure a resort fee for guests in Mews Operations

To stay compliant with local regulations or pricing strategies, properties in the hospitality industry often apply a resort fee to guest stays. A resort fee is an additional charge that covers amenities or services offered by the property. Hotel staff members or property managers, configure the resort fee in Mews Operations, and it appears to guests during the booking process in the Mews Booking Engine. They typically do this during system onboarding or when your property introduces new charges.

 

Step 1: Create a resort fee as a product

  1. Go to main menu A black text with a right arrowAI-generated content may be incorrect. > Settings > Services > Stay.
  2. Click Products.
  3. On the Products screen, click Create product.
  4. Complete the following fields:
    • Name: Enter the name of the product. For example, Resort fee.
  5. Click Next.
    • Price: Enter the amount to charge.
    • Currency: Click the dropdown to select the currency.
    • Frequency: Click to select the charging frequency from the dropdown. For example, Once.
    • Timing: Click to select the charging timing from the dropdown, For example, Reservation Start
      For example, Per night.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click the Product options dropdown, then click to select Selected by default. Note: ensure you deselect all other options.
  8. Click the Classifications dropdown, then click to select Fee. Note: Ensure you deselect all other options.
  9. Click Save.

 

Note: Classification ensures that the product behaves correctly in financial reports and guest-facing interfaces like the Booking Engine.

 

Step 2: Create a product rule to apply the resort fee

Set up a product rule to automatically add the resort fee to reservations:

  1. Go to main menu A black text with a right arrowAI-generated content may be incorrect. > Settings > Services > Stay.
  2. Click Product rules, then click .
  3. Complete the following fields:
    • Space category condition: Click the dropdown to select Equals.
    • Space category: Click the dropdown to select the space category this resort fee applies to. For example, standard room.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Click Rule action.
  6. Complete the following fields:
    • Product: Click the dropdown to select the resort fee product you create in step 1.
    • Action: Click the dropdown to select Add.
  7. Click Save.

 

Note: The system adds the resort fee to every applicable reservation automatically, increasing the total price shown to guests.

 

 

Step 3: Display the resort fee in your Booking Engine

Set how the resort fee appears to guests in the Mews Booking Engine:

  1. Go to main menu A black text with a right arrowAI-generated content may be incorrect. > Settings > Services > Stay.
  2. Click Booking engines.
  3. Click the name of your booking engine. For example, default.
  4. Scroll to Display taxes, then click the dropdown to select how to display fees to the guest. For example, click to select Taxes, fees.
  5. Click Save.

 

This configures a resort fee for guests in Mews Operations.
