How to create a custom metric in Mews Business Intelligence Pro

You create a custom metric in Mews Business Intelligence Pro to define how a value is calculated based on your business needs. You use custom metrics to adjust existing calculations or create new ones that better reflect your reporting requirements.

How to create a custom metric in Mews Business Intelligence Pro

Step 1: Open the visualization editor

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menumain menu  > Business Intelligence > Overview.
  2. Open an existing dashboard or click Create dashboard.
  3. Click to add a visualization. This opens the visualization editor.

You can now create a custom metric.

 

Step 2: Create a new metric

Note: Custom metrics apply only within Mews Business Intelligence Pro.

 

  1. In the data panel, locate the Metrics section.
  2. Click + Create metric.

  • A new metric configuration panel opens
  • You can define how the metric calculates values

 

You can now define your custom metric.

 

Step 3: Define the metric calculation

  1. Enter a name for the metric.

  1. Build the calculation using available metrics and functions. You can:
  • Combine existing metrics
  • Apply calculations such as sum, average, or division
  • Add filters to include or exclude specific data

For example, you can create a metric for Net room revenue by excluding specific accounting categories.

 


Note

  • Custom metrics must follow valid calculation logic. Incorrect formulas may prevent the metric from saving or displaying correctly.
  • If you modify a custom metric, all related visualizations update automatically.
 

You can now configure how your metric calculates data.

 

Step 4: Save the custom metric

  1. Click Save.

  • The metric is added to your metrics library.
  • The metric becomes available in the visualization editor

You can now reuse this metric in your dashboards.

 

Step 5: Use the custom metric in a visualization

  1. Locate using the search bar, and drag the custom metric into the visualization.

  1. Combine it with attributes or date dimensions as needed.
  • The visualization updates automatically
  • The metric applies only to the current visualization unless reused

 

For example, you can combine your custom metric with Property to compare performance across locations.

 

You can now analyze your data using your custom metric. You can edit or update metrics at any time. Changes to a metric affect all visualizations where it is being used.
