How to increase revenue using seasonal promotions in Mews POS

Seasonal promotions in Mews POS help increase revenue by encouraging guests to purchase specific products during targeted periods, including holidays, events, or quieter hours. Restaurant managers create these promotions in the Mews POS web dashboard. Mews POS automatically applies the discount when guests order selected products during the configured dates and times. This increases order value, promotes seasonal items, and drives additional revenue without manual discounting.

To create a limited time promotion from the Mews POS web dashboard:

  1. Click Products > Promotions
  2. Click  
  3. In the New promotion side window, enter the following fields:
    • Name: Enter the name of the promotion. Use a clear seasonal name so staff quickly recognize and promote the offer during service, For example, Easter cocktail deal.
    • Promotion Type: Click the drop-down to select the promotion type
      • Fixed price: You can charge a fixed price for this promotion, for example, buy two for the price of €5. This encourages guests to purchase multiple items which increases the total order value.
      • Discount: Mews POS deducts either a fixed price or a percentage, for example, get €3 off cheese, or get 15% off cheese. You configure this discount in the Discount type field. This motivates guests to choose the promoted item and increases seasonal product sales.
      • Cheapest discount: Mews POS deducts either a fixed price or a percentage from the cheapest of multiple items. For example, buy two items and get €3 off the cheapest, or buy two items and get 15% off the cheapest. This increases order size because guests add more items to qualify for the discount.
      • Cheapest free: The guest receives the cheapest of multiple items for free. This encourages larger orders which increases overall revenue.
      • Discount type: Click the drop-down to select either a price discount or a percentage discount. Note: The system displays this option only for Discount and Cheapest discount promotion types.
      • Price/Percentage: Enter the price or the percentage for the discount. Selecting the correct discount level balances guest incentives with profit margins.
      • Starts at: Click to select a start date if applicable. This ensures the promotion starts during the intended seasonal period.
      • Ends at: Click to select an end date if applicable. This automatically ends the promotion when the seasonal campaign finishes.

  1. Times: Enter the relevant details in the following fields:
    • Time From: Click the drop-down to select the start time of the promotion. Use this to increase revenue during specific service periods, for example, happy hour.
    • Time to: Click the drop-down to select the end time of the promotion.
    • Day: Click a day to activate the promotion during the period you configured for the selected day. Selecting specific days helps increase revenue during quieter periods. Note: You can press control on Windows or command on Mac and click multiple days to select them.
  2. Optionally, click  to add an additional day and time period. Adding more time periods allows you to extend seasonal promotions across multiple busy service periods.
  3. Customer groups: Optionally, click the drop-down to select which customer groups the promotion should apply to. Targeting customer groups helps you promote relevant offers and increase guest spending.

  1. Select groups: Enter the following fields:
    1. Name: Enter the name of the product group the guest must select for the promotion to apply, for example, cocktails. Note: This is visible to guests within digital ordering and by staff within the Mews POS android app.
    2. Count: Enter the quantity of items the guest must select while ordering for the promotion to apply. Requiring multiple items encourages guests to purchase more products.
    3. Products: Click the drop-down to select where Mews POS applies the promotion: one of the following:
      • Category: Mews POS applies the promotion to an entire product category, for example, beer. Promoting a category increases overall sales of seasonal items.
      • Product: Mews POS applies the promotion to a single product. This drives demand for specific seasonal products.
      • Product variant: Mews POS applies the promotion to a single product variant. This highlights specific seasonal variants, for example, limited edition drinks.
    4. Click the drop-down to the right of the Products drop-down to select a category, product or product variant. Note: When you complete this field, Mews POS creates an additional row of Product options.
    5. Optionally, repeat steps c and d for any additional products for this product group.
    6. Optionally, click ADD GROUP to add another product group to the promotion.
    7. Repeat steps a to d for any additional product groups. Note: You can click REMOVE GROUP to delete a product group.

 

  1. Description: At the bottom of the New Promotion side window, Mews POS automatically generates a description of the promotion. This ensures the promotion you configure is correct.
  2. Click SAVE.

This configures a seasonal promotion in Mews POS. You can deactivate the promotion at any time by clicking the Active slider switch.

When guests or staff add relevant items to the cart during the promotional period, Mews POS calculates the discount automatically.
