How to set up tax or fee display in the Mews Booking Engine

The Mews Booking Engine allows guests to make online reservations at your property. It is one of the first interactions potential guests have with your property. Understanding the tax configuration settings and their differences according to pricing environment ensures you provide your guests with the best possible first impression. When setting up your Mews Booking Engine, you can choose how the booking engine displays taxes to your guests.

How to set up tax or fee display in the Mews Booking Engine 

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu menu arrow right  > Settings > Services.
  2. Click to select your bookable service, for example, Stay.
  3. Click Booking engines, then click  Add-24 Booking engine to add a booking engine. 
  4. Under Display taxes, click to select which labels you want to display to guests during category and rate selection in the Mews Booking Engine. The labels Mews displays depend on whether your pricing environment is gross or net.

  1. Click Save.

Note: The Mews Booking Engine only displays a product if your property includes it in the booking and it has a “city tax” or “fee” classification. To set up city tax, follow the instructions here.  

 

For gross-pricing environments 

For gross-pricing environments, the system always includes taxes, such as VAT, within the price regardless of the setting. The setting only determines if guests see the label or not.

If you select:

  • None: Guests do not see any labels.
  • Taxes: Guests see the “Taxes included” label.
  • Taxes, City taxes: Guests see tax and city tax labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax products, Mews displays “City tax included, Taxes included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded, Taxes included”.
  • City taxes: Guests see city tax labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax products, Mews displays “City tax included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded”.
  • Fees: Guests see fee labels, for example:
    • If there are fee products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews does not display a label.
  • Taxes, Fees: Guests see tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are fee products, Mews displays “Taxes included {FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “Taxes included”.
  • City taxes, Fees: Guests see city tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax and fee products, Mews displays “City tax included, {FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “City tax included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded, {FeeProductName} included”.
  • Taxes, City Taxes, Fees: Guests see tax, city tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are tax, city tax and fee products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included, City tax included, Taxes included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included, City tax excluded, taxes included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “City tax included, Taxes included”.

 

For net-pricing environments 

For net-pricing environments, the system never includes taxes within the price regardless of the setting. The setting only determines if guests see the label or not.

If you select:

  • None: Guests do not see any labels.
  • Taxes: Guests see the “Taxes excluded” label.
  • Taxes, City taxes: Guests see tax and city tax labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax products, Mews displays “City tax included, Taxes excluded”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded, Taxes excluded”.
  • City taxes: Guests see city tax labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax products, Mews displays “City tax included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded”.
  • Fees: Guests see fee labels, for example:
    • If there are fee products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews does not display a label.
  • Taxes, Fees: Guests see tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are fee products, Mews displays “Taxes excluded, {FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “Taxes excluded”.
  • City taxes, Fees: Guests see city tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are city tax and fee products, Mews displays “City tax included, {FeeProductName} included”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “City tax included”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “City tax excluded, {FeeProductName} included”.
  • Taxes, City Taxes, Fees: Guests see tax, city tax and fee labels, for example:
    • If there are tax, city tax and fee products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included, City tax included, Taxes excluded”.
    • If there are no city tax products, Mews displays “{FeeProductName} included, City tax excluded, Taxes excluded”.
    • If there are no fee products, Mews displays “City tax included, Taxes excluded”.
