The Booker journey in Mews,
- begins when a booker first clicks on the Mews Booking Engine to start their reservation, and
- ends when they receive their confirmation email.
Understanding this process can give you a better overview of the booker’s experience. When a booker calls your front office directly to make a reservation for a guest, the following process remains the same, except your front office personnel enters the booker’s contact and payment details.

A booker’s journey in the Mews Booking Engine consists of the following steps:
Step 1: Date selection
When a booker opens the Mews Booking Engine, Mews displays the Dates screen, where they:
- Click on the Arrival and Departure sections to open the calendar and select dates. Note: If guests select unavailable dates, the calendar provides more information about property specific restrictions such as maximum length of stay, earliest check in date, etc.
- Add the number of Adults, Teenagers, Children or Infants in the reservation.
- Add a promotional code, if any.
- Click Next.
Note: Bookers can change the currency type in the upper right corner next to the language selection.
Step 2: Space type selection
The Categories screen lets bookers view all available spaces for the chosen dates. They can then turn the Free cancellation only slider switch:
- On: The screen displays only rates with free cancellation
- Off: The screen displays all rates
Step 3: Booking customization
The Rates screen consists of three sections. Here they can customize their booking:
- Enhance your stay: Displays products that you customize and add, such as breakfast or champagne. It also shows bookable services, such as parking, meeting rooms, or bikes. Bookers can add them to their reservation by clicking Add.
- Occupancy: Bookers edit the number of rooms or guests by clicking the + or - buttons.
- Rates: Shows all available rates for the selected dates. Bookers can click Book now to finalize their selection.
Note:
- To list products in the Mews Booking Engine, attach them to your stay service and enable the Offer to customers option.
- To list bookable services in the Mews Booking Engine, create a service promotion and enable Offer to customers in the booking engine.
Step 4: Booking summary check
The Summary screen gives an overview of the reservation including a breakdown of any products, services, taxes or free cancellation deadlines. Bookers can then:
- Click Continue to move to the next screen.
Note:
- The booking engine displays free cancellation deadlines only if you enable the 'Display cancellation tags' setting.
- To add another item, bookers can click + Add another item. This brings the booker back to the Rates screen.
Step 5: Enter contact and payment details
The Details screen is the last step in the Mews Booking Engine. Here, bookers can:
- Select:
- I’m booking for myself to enter their own details, or
- I’m booking for someone else to enter a guest’s details.
- Enter the payment card details.
- Check the box as below, to agree to your property’s Terms and Conditions.
- Check the box to receive marketing updates. Note: Guests need to manually check the box for this option if they want to receive marketing updates.
- Click Confirm to finalize.
Note: Bookers need to fill in all fields with an * to complete the booking.
Step 6: Confirmation/ Error communication
Once the reservation process is complete, based on the information the bookers provide, they receive the following confirmation or error messages in the Mews Booking Engine, and from Mews via email.

On successful completion of the booking process, Mews send communications to bookers and guests in the following instances:

On successful completion of the above reservation steps, the Mews Booking Engine displays the following confirmation message.
Booker confirmation email
Mews sends this email to the booker after the booking engine confirms the reservation. You can learn how to customize it here.
Confirmation email
When the reservation owner is not the same as the booker, Mews sends the guest this email. You can customize it here.
Note: By default, this email includes a QR code attachment to help speed up check-ins. You can choose to disable the QR code from the email.
Error
In case of errors that prevent from completion of the reservation process, Mews sends email communications to bookers in the following instances:
Booking abandoned
Mews sends this email when a booker fails to complete payment in time for an optional booking made via Mews Booking Engine.
