How does the Mews Booking Engine display rates

The Mews Booking Engine displays rates based on rate groups. Rate groups are groups of rates which have the same cancellation policies and payment policies. You can also include individual rates in the booking engine by creating an individual rate group for each rate. You can learn more about creating rates here.

Rate labels

Rate labels describe cancellation policies associated with a particular rate. The booking engine displays these descriptions next to the relevant rate. There are three types of rate labels described below that are visible to guests in the booking engine. For guests to view rate labels and the ‘Free cancellation’ option in the Mews Booking Engine, you need to enable the ‘Display cancellation tags’ setting.

Guests can then use the ‘Free cancellation’ slider switch to filter and control the rates the booking engine displays. They can slide the switch off or on to view all rates or only those with free cancellation.

When selecting a rate in the booking engine, guests see the following labels:

  • Free cancellation: Rates with this label allow guests to cancel a booking and receive a full refund until the date and time indicated on the label. For the Mews Booking Engine to display this rate,
    • you need to set your cancellation policy’s absolute or relative fee to 0.
    • If there is a cancellation fee applicable at the reservation start date, but no cancellation policy for the current period, the Mews Booking Engine displays the Free cancellation label.
  • Partially refundable: Rates with this label allow guests to cancel a booking and receive a partial refund minus a fee until the date and time indicated on the label. The fee can be a percentage of the total amount or a fixed absolute fee, for example, $15. For the Mews Booking Engine to display this rate, your cancellation policy’s absolute fee or relative fee needs to be above 0.
  • Non-refundable: For rates with this label, guests cannot cancel their reservation or receive a refund. For the Mews Booking Engine to display this rate, you need to set your cancellation policy’s relative fee to 100% or the absolute fee needs to be equal to or greater than the reservation price.

Note: If you do not set a cancellation policy, the Mews Booking Engine displays the Non-refundable label as default.

When the guest turns the Free cancellation only slider switch:

  • On: The screen displays only rates with free cancellation
  • Off: The screen displays all rates

In the Rates screen

The Rates section of the Rates screen displays all rate options and sorts them from the lowest to the highest price. The Mews Booking Engine automatically displays the rates in the following order:

  1. Free cancellation rates
  2. Lowest partially refundable rates
  3. Highest partially refundable rates
  4. Non-refundable rates

If more than one rate is available in a rate group, the booking engine displays:

  • the rate with lowest price first, and
  • the rate with the higher price as a crossed-out amount.

Note: If there is only one rate in a rate group that is available since all other rates within that rate group are restricted, then the booking engine does not show a crossed-out amount for that rate.
