Multicurrency by Mews Payments enables transparent currency conversion when guests pay for rooms and services via Payment Request, Booking Engine, Mews Terminals, Mews POS, and Mews Kiosk. Mews enables Multicurrency by default for eligible properties.
With Multicurrency, international guests can view the cost of the room or service in their preferred currency, and then pay using this currency with transparent fees. In addition, your business claims a portion of the transaction fee as revenue, creating an additional revenue stream.

Overview
When your guest pays for a room or service online or by using a Mews Terminal, Mews detects the currency the guest uses using factors such as geolocation, guest preferences, or the currency of the payment card. Optionally, the guest can select a currency option.
Upon detection or selection, Mews displays transparent exchange rates and fees. The guest can opt to complete payment in their preferred currency with the displayed fees.
You can learn more about how Multicurrency works here.
Multicurrency completes the currency conversion before payment is processed. This ensures that the transaction processes in the preferred currency and eliminates the requirement for currency conversion with the guest’s bank or card issuer. This eliminates foreign exchange fees with the guest’s bank or card issuer.
In addition, the property captures a percentage of Multicurrency fee as revenue.
This:
- Improves transparency, increases guest trust, and reduces disputes related to exchange rates by showing guests the final amount in their home currency before they pay.
- Creates an additional revenue stream, as your property earns a percentage of Multicurrency markup fee when guests choose to pay in their own currency.
Multicurrency by Mews Payments applies to eligible card payments processed through Mews Payments across the Mews ecosystem.
When you enable it, Multicurrency works for:
- Online payments: Guests can view and pay in their home currency before completing the transaction via the Booking Engine or Payment Requests.
- Front desk payments in Mews Operations: Guests can choose their preferred currency directly on the terminal, using Mews Terminal S1 or S2.
- In-person outlet payments in Mews POS: Guests can select their home currency when paying in restaurants, bars, or other outlets, when using Mews Terminal S1 or S2.
- Mews Kiosk: Self-service payments.
Multicurrency does not apply to:
- POS Digital Ordering payments
- Unsupported regions
- Mews Terminals in North America
Yes. Multicurrency is available for in-person payments taken in Mews POS using Mews Terminal S1 or S2, when your property uses Mews Payments.
When a guest uses an eligible card, the guest can choose to pay in:
- Their home currency, with a clearly displayed markup fee, or
- The property currency, with no Multicurrency fee.
Mews POS requires no additional configuration. The system manages Multicurrency settings in Mews Operations and applies them across both PMS and POS.
Multicurrency does not apply to POS Digital Ordering payments.

From April 2025, the standard Mews Payments contract for all new customers, in regions where the service is available, includes Multicurrency.

Pricing and Fees
Mews charges the full markup fee to the guest when they agree to the transaction.
This happens because when a guest chooses to pay in their home currency, the total markup fee is charged to the guest at the time of payment, including all fees to use the services at the point of payment.
Mews then deducts your share of the markup from your Mews Payments invoice. This appears as an FX on payments line item on your invoice.
This ensures:
- The guest pays the full Multicurrency fee.
- Your property receives its share of the markup revenue.
- Reporting remains transparent and reconcilable.
