Why did I receive the “Login from New Location” email

Mews sends the “Login from new location” email whenever it detects a login attempt from a location that differs from your previous logins. This alert serves as a security check to ensure that it’s you accessing your account.

You can receive the “Login from new location” email because of:

  • Logging in from a different physical location.
  • Using a VPN or proxy service that hides your actual location.
  • Location discrepancies caused by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Note: The location mentioned in the email may differ slightly from your actual address due to the way IP addresses are registered. This difference can be several kilometers, depending on the distance between your location and the server.

How to verify the “Login from New Location” email

If you receive the email, follow these steps to check if the login is legitimate:

  1. Review the location in the email.
    1. Compare the location mentioned in the email to your actual location. For example, if the email shows a login from a different country, it may indicate a suspicious login.
  2. Check the time of the login
    1. Make sure the time of the login matches when you tried to log in. If the time is significantly different, this may indicate unauthorized access. Note: The login time shows in your local time zone.
  3. Review the device type.
    1. Confirm that the device mentioned, for example, Windows or MacOS, matches the device you used to access your account.
  4. Identify unexpected changes.
    1. If you do not recognize the location, device, or time, immediately change your Mews account password and contact your system administrator.

What actions to take if you do not recognize the login

If you do not recognize the login attempt, do not ignore this email. Reset your password and report it to your administrator to secure your account.

What to do if you frequently receive these emails

If you receive frequent “Login from new location” emails, consider the following possibilities:

  • You are using multiple devices in different locations, for example, work and home.
  • Your VPN or ISP assigns new IP addresses each time you connect.
  • You frequently travel and log in from various locations.

To minimize these emails, try logging in consistently from the same device and location whenever possible.
