How to block a room?

How to block a specific space

To block availability for a specific space, you can either create a House use or make the space Out of order.

  • The House use does not affect ADR and occupancy reporting. The main usage of this feature is to reflect internal stays (showroom, training, friends, employees, etc.).
  • The Out of order is intended to block a room from being sold for a prolonged period of time. It is usually used for major repairs. Out of order blocks are deducted from the overall inventory and affect revenue calculations.

More information on House use and Out of order blocks can be found here: House use, Out of Service and Out of Order

How to block an entire space category

Note: This is the way you can block sales of a certain category on both the booking engine and the channel manager, as long as the Upload Restriction operation is selected in your integration options. If you only want to block your Channel manager from selling a room category, you need to close the rate offered on your channel manager and not the space category itself.

    1. Go to Menu > Settings > Services > Stay > Restrictions.
    2. Click the Screenshot 2022-10-03 at 9.35.17.png icon in the top right corner.
    3. Select the Closed to stay type.
    4. Select the Start and End date and the Space category that you want to block.
      • Omitting the Start and End date will have this restriction applied always.
      • Omitting all conditions will have your entire property blocked from creating reservations.

Note: restrictions with overlapping intervals impact how Mews sends restrictions to the channel manager and should be avoided.
