The Trial balance is a part of Mews Analytics. It provides you with an overview of unsettled balances in your property(s), grouped by accounting category. With this financial report you can see the closing balance of all accounts opened with your business.
You can use the Trial balance to:
- Identify errors in your accounting records, and
- Monitor and analyze the financial health of your business, so that you can draw insights and make adjustments.
To learn more about your guests’ deposits and payments, received prior to the start of a guest’s reservation, you can use the Deposit ledger in Mews Analytics. To access the Trial balance, you need:
- an Enterprise subscription to Mews OR
- to purchase Mews Analytics as an add-on AND
- to be either an Admin in your Mews account or have the Access sensitive reports permission.
Note: If you are an Enterprise client, you can use Mews Analytics only after you enable the integration within each property in your chain.
To access the Trial balance, in Mews Operations,
- go to the main menu
> Analytics > Trial balance, or
- in the top search bar type in the first few letters of the name of the report, for example “trial...” and choose the report from the suggested searches.

In this article you can learn the following about the Trial balance:
The dashboard data represents all unsettled balances in your property(s), grouped by accounting category. Note: The system refreshes your data twice daily.
The dashboard displays data per registered property in Mews for multi-property enterprises. Note: You can select today's date, or up to 7 previous days. You can also check the final balance of each month, for the previous 3 months.
The system loads data into the dashboard every 12 hours, and the data is usually between 8 - 12 hours old. Updated data is available every day at 9:00 UTC and at 21:00 UTC. Note: The exact time might vary based on the amount of data contained in the update.
Data parameters:
- Last Refresh: UTC timestamp of the last report refresh.
- Currency: The local currency, as per the dashboard selection. Note: You can select different currencies. The system recalculates to your selected currency, based on actual exchange rates.
- UserId: The identity code of the user.
Note: The dashboard recalculates all figures in the selected currency based on actual exchange rates.
In this main data section, you can view the following fields:
- Open past revenue: Gross amount of unpaid revenue from consumed items and still on an open bill.
- Open prepayments: Amount of all open payments before the date selected.
- Unpaid invoices: Gross total amount from unpaid invoice(s).
- Closed future revenue: Gross amount of all closed future revenue.
- General ledger: Gross amount of (Open past revenue + Open prepayments + Unpaid invoices) - Closed future revenue.
For the following sections, you can search for and select specific enterprises to filter your data by clicking on individual drop-down menus:

In the Trial balance you can view the following metrics that Mews Analytics calculates from data across your property(s).
Trial balance: Overview of unsettled balances in your property(s), grouped by accounting category. You can see the closing balance of all accounts opened with your business.
You can use the data in the Trial balance to identify errors in your accounting records and monitor and analyze the financial health of your business, so that you can draw insights and adjust accordingly.

You can apply filters to refine your data in the Trial balance. This is useful to customize your reports to display specific data, to analyze trends, quickly identify anomalies, and more.
- Account category: Filter by the accounting category.
- Account category code: Filter by the accounting category code.
- Date: Filter by date.
- Currency code: Your preferred currency code. Changing the currency recalculates all metrics, based on current exchange rates
- Chain name: Filter by chain name.
- Enterprise type: Filter by enterprise type.
- Country: Filter by one or more countries.
- City: Filter by city.
