You can use restrictions in Mews Operations to prevent guests from making reservations, if they meet certain conditions. This gives you more control over your reservation management and makes it easier for Revenue managers to manage your pricing strategy.
You can view and manage your restrictions in Mews Operations on the Restrictions screen, where you can organize them as a list, or in a calendar view. This list view lets you search for specific restrictions using filters, and you can gain an overview of dates you are restricting using the calendar view. If you don't create any restrictions, the Restrictions page remains blank.
You can create, edit or delete restrictions individually, or in bulk. You can learn more about this here, and about creating restrictions here. You can review a summary of any changes you are making on the Review changes screen before, confirming them. This is useful to correct any mistakes and check which reservations you are affecting with the change.
You can set up the following types of restrictions:
- Closed to arrival
- Closed to departure
- Close to stay
- Length of stay
- Advance booking
- Price restrictions
To view your restrictions:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Services.
- Click on your bookable service.
- From the Settings menu, click Restrictions.
Note: You can also access the "Restrictions" section of your bookable service directly from the Mews Operations search bar by typing in "restrictions".

The List view
The default tab for viewing restrictions is List view, where Mews arranges restrictions in a list. To make modifications, you can click on a restriction under the Time column. You can learn more about editing restrictions here.
You can view the details of your restriction in the following columns:
- Time: This column shows when the restriction applies, and the type. For example, the above restriction type is Closed to stay, and applies Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
- Rates: The rate that the restriction applies to or restricts. For example, a restriction blocks access to the Exact rate: Flexible Summer.
- Spaces: The space that the restriction applies to. For example, a restriction blocks access to the Dorm space category when Space category: Dorm.
- Exceptions: The exceptions to the restriction. For example, a guest booking is not blocked by a restriction if it meets the exceptions in this column, such as Minimum advance: 5 days and Maximum length: 3 nights.
- Created: The creation date, and details of who created the restriction.
- Updated: The date the restriction was last updated, and by whom.
The Calendar view
You can click on Calendar view to view your restrictions arranged by date. To make modifications, click on a restriction and select the Edit icon. You can learn more about editing restrictions here.
Notes:
- Minimum/ Maximum Advance restrictions start and end according to the dates you set when creating them.
- In some cases, when using a channel manager that does not offer the Minimum advance restriction type, your Minimum advance restriction you create in Mews is sent as a Close to stay restriction instead. This results in your Minimum advance restriction starting from the check-in time of the reservation instead. Learn how to restrict the proper advance period here.
