How to delete a space category in Mews Operations

You may need to delete a space category in Mews Operations when you no longer offer a certain type of space. This helps you accurately represent the existing space categories and helps your staff navigate and manage the system effectively. 

 

You can access the space categories section of your bookable service by typing "Space categories" in the Mews search bar.

To delete a space category: 

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu > Settings > Services.
  2. Click the bookable service with the space category you want to delete.
  3. Click Space categories.
  4. Click the space category you want to delete.
  5. Click  Delete.

 

  1. Click Delete to confirm. 

 

Mews instantly removes your deleted category from the Space categories screen. 

 

How to resolve error messages when deleting a space category

When deleting a space category, you may encounter the following error messages: 

  • "Cannot delete space category mapped to channel manager integration, remove the channel manager mappings first": This means there are existing mappings to the channel manager integration. To resolve this error, remove the mappings. You can learn how to delete a space category from the channel manager integration here.

  • "Cannot delete category because it is used as a base category for price adjustments": This means
    • the space category serves as the default base category for price adjustments due to its priority in the space category ordering, or
    • you manually set it as the base category within the rate adjustments.

    To resolve this error:

    • Update the space category ordering to list it in a lower position.
    • Change the “Base adjustment category” for the dependent rate. 

  • "Cannot delete space category because it is requested by some active reservations": This means the space category:  
    • has future reservations assigned, or  
    • is in the requested category of any future reservations. 

    To resolve this error, assign the reservations to a different space category and change the requested category.
