How to offer space upgrades to guests during online check-in

Mews lets you increase revenue by offering guests the option to upgrade to higher-priced spaces during online check-in. Once you enable it, the system automatically checks if there are any spaces in a higher category available. The guest can then choose to upgrade. Mews charges the new space price minus the price they paid at booking. You can configure space categories for upgrades in Mews Operations at any time. The system shows guests a maximum of two upgrade options for both online and Mews Kiosk check in. Mews determines the two upgrade options based on the next available higher space categories from what the guest's current booking.

Mews only displays an upgrade if the new space:

• Has no product rules associated with it,
• Has similar or greater capacity than the original space, including extra beds,
• Is available for the full duration of the original booking,
• Is not excluded from upgrades, 
• Has a higher ordering number than the original space, and
• Costs more than the price the guest already paid.  

Mews does not offer upgrades if:

• There is a restriction in place or there is no availability, or
• There are multiple spaces in the booking. 

 

To offer space upgrades during online check-in:

1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu   > Settings > Services.
2. Click on the bookable service you want to offer space upgrades for.
3. In Visit Options, click to select Enable space upgrades in online check in. Note: Mews disables this setting by default.   

4. Click Save.  

 

This offers space upgrades to guests during online check-in. You can view upgrades in the guest’s reservation Action log, Mews automatically logs any upgrades and pricing changes. Note: When a guest upgrades their space, Mews updates their bill to include the new price. The original price is no longer visible on the guest’s bill.
