Set occupancy adjustment based on age category classification

Once you configure your age categories, you can also set your occupancy adjustment in the pricing details of your rates. This enables you to charge extra, or differently, for occupants in a reservation based on their age. For example, you can configure the extra occupancy for your rates to accommodate a family with three children. You can learn more about managing the pricing details of a rate here

Note: You can set occupancy adjustments based on age categories on base rates only, not on dependent rates. You can learn more about adjusting pricing for your rates here.

How age category adjustments work in Mews

If you do not specify the adjustments for an age category, Mews assigns the “Adult” rates for products and services to those age categories.
  • When assigning extra occupancy, Mews assigns the age category with the cheapest extra occupancy adjustment first, and
  • Assigns the remaining guests to the standard occupancy with their standard occupancy prices.

Note: If you wish to set a particular age category for free, for example, “Infant”, then you need to make sure that the value in the Standard occupancy field for that age category is the same as the value in the Negative occupancy adjustment field in the Adjustments tab.

Examples

  • Consider a standard room with a Fully flexible rate of 200 euro and a max occupancy of four. Assuming there’s a standard occupancy of “-5” euro for a child, for a reservation with two adults and two children, Mews calculates the price as follows:

Total price = Fully Flexible Rate + Standard occupancy for 2 children = 200 + (2 x -5) = 190 euro.

  • Another example of a Triple occupancy room for the same rate with a max occupancy of five. For a reservation with two adults, and a:

    • Teenager with a standard occupancy of “–5" and extra occupancy adjustment "20",
    • Child with extra occupancy adjustment of “10” and
    • Infant with extra occupancy adjustment of “0”.

Mews calculates the price as follows:

Total price = Fully Flexible Rate + (Extra occupancy adjustment for 1 Infant) + (Extra occupancy adjustment for 1 Child) + (Standard occupancy for 1 Teenager) = 200 + (1 x 0) + (1 x 10) + (1 x -5) = 205 euroNote: Mews considers the cheaper Child extra occupancy adjustment and assigns the Teenager age category to standard occupancy.

  • An example for a Family room with maximum occupancy of two adults and two children for the same rate. For a reservation with one adult and two children, with:
    • Negative occupancy adjustment of “-20” and
    • Child with standard occupancy of “-5”.
Mews calculates the price as:

Total price = Fully Flexible rate - Negative occupancy adjustment for 1 adult + 2 x Standard occupancy for Child = 200 – 20 + (2 x –5) = 170 euro
