You use filters in Mews Business Intelligence to control exactly which data appears on a dashboard. As a revenue manager, finance team member, or operations manager, you apply filters to analyze performance for a specific period, property, segment, or operational condition. Filters help you ensure that metrics reflect the business context you want to review.
You can apply filters to the entire dashboard or to individual visualizations, depending on how you configure your dashboard.
Note
- Filters only affect visualizations that are connected in the data model. If there is no relationship between the filter and the visualization data, the filter does not change the results.
- Data refreshes in Mews Business Intelligence every two hours.
- Customizable functionalities are only available for Business Intelligence Pro users. Upgrade to gain access or purchase in the Mews Marketplace.

Using filters in Mews Business Intelligence
Dashboard filters
Dashboard filters appear in the top filter bar. The system applies them to the entire dashboard by default.
When you apply a dashboard filter:
- The system automatically updates all connected visualizations.
- The filter values you select remain visible in the filter bar.
- The dashboard immediately reflects the applied filters.
To apply a dashboard filter:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Overview.
- Open a dashboard, for example, Daily summary.
- In the top filter bar, click a filter field, for example, Accounting category, Date, or Property.
- Select your filter values.
- Click Apply.
The dashboard updates based on your selection.
Note: A dashboard filter only impacts visualizations where you have enabled dashboard filtering.
Visualization filters
You can also apply filters directly inside a visualization.
Note
- You can only do so in custom dashboards; the system fixes visualizations in Mews curated dashboards, so you cannot filter them.
- Business Intelligence provides curated dashboards only. For full customization functionalities, upgrade to Business Intelligence Pro. It is included in subscription tiers Enterprise, Portfolio, and Brand. You can purchase Business Intelligence Pro as an add-on in the Mews Marketplace.
These filters:
- Apply only to that specific visualization.
- Do not appear in the dashboard filter bar.
- Can override dashboard-level expectations.
To apply a visualization-level filter:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Overview.
- Navigate to the dashboard you want to filter, for example, your custom dashboard.
- Select the visualization you want to filter, and click
More actions > Explore from here.
- Click to apply the filter(s) inside the visualization from the Filters section.
- Click Apply. This filters the visualization.
- Click Save to return to the main dashboard with your visualization filter applied.
For example, if you apply a Space type filter inside a visualization and set it to Apartments, that visualization always shows Apartments data, even if the dashboard-level Space type filter is set to All.
This makes it important to name visualizations clearly so users understand what they display.
Configuring visualization filter behaviour
You can configure a visualization to ignore dashboard filters.
This is useful when:
- You want a visualization to always show fixed data.
- You want to compare filtered and unfiltered data in the same dashboard.
To configure this:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Overview.
- Navigate to the dashboard you want to filter, for example, a custom dashboard.
- Select Edit to edit the dashboard.
- Click
More actions > Explore from here on the visualization.
- Select Configuration.
- Review the filter settings and enable or disable dashboard filters as needed.
- Save the dashboard.
If you disable dashboard filters for a visualization, it does not react to filters you apply to the full dashboard when applying filters in the top filter bar.
Note: If a visualization does not respond to a dashboard filter, check its configuration first.
Using time filters correctly
Time filters determine which date context the dashboard uses for calculations.
Common time contexts include:
- Reservation created time
- Reservation stay date
- Consumption time
The time and context you select affect how the system calculates the metrics.
To adjust the time filter:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Overview.
- Navigate to the dashboard you want to filter, for example, Pickup.
- Click the Date of stay filter in the dashboard filter bar.
- Select the correct time dimension.
- Choose your date range.
- Click Apply.
For example, use Reservation created time to analyze when reservations were created, and use Consumption time to see when a reservation was consumed.
Note: Changing the time context updates all metrics that depend on dates.
Troubleshooting filtering issues
To avoid common filtering issues, be aware of the following:
- Disconnected filters: If a filter does not impact a visualization, there may be no data relationship in the model.
- Hidden visualization filters: A visualization-level filter may override dashboard settings.
- Reservation status inflation: Including Cancelled or No show reservations can distort occupancy results.
For example, if occupancy appears higher than expected, check whether Cancelled reservations are included.
Resetting filters
To return to the default dashboard view:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Business Intelligence > Overview.
- Navigate to the dashboard you want to filter, for example, Pickup.
- Click Reset all filters in the filter bar.
This resets all filters and the dashboard reloads using its default configuration.
