How to set up segments in Mews Operations

You can use segments in Mews Operations to classify reservations by attributes relevant to your operations. For example, you can segment your reservations by traveler type, reservation purpose, or price classification to identify trends that can help you improve your business decisions. Mews automatically assigns default segments to reservations based on how you set up your segments.

 

When a new reservation qualifies for multiple default segments, Mews assigns a segment based on the following priority, if available:  

  1. The Travel agency segment,
  2. Channel manager or the booking engine segment from your service settings,
  3. The segment you assigned to the selected rate, or
  4. The service's default segment 

 

Note: Mews prioritizes Travel agency segments only if you create the reservation via Channel manager. If you create it through the booking engine or the new reservation screen, Mews applies the segments in the order 2-4 from the list above.

You can set up segments so that Mews assigns them by default. To do so: 

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu  > Settings > Services.
  2. Click on your bookable service.
  3. In the Options section, set up the segments you want Mews to apply automatically or by default. You can learn more about each segment here.
 

 

  1. Click Save.

 

Travel agency segments

To attach a segment to a travel agency contract:

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu  > Settings > Services.
  2. Click on your bookable service.
  3. Click Travel agency contracts.
  4. Click on a travel agency contract to update it or create a new one.
  5. Under Channel manager segment, select the segment you want Mews to assign by default.
  6. Save your changes:
  • If you are updating a travel agency contract, click Save.
  • If you are creating a new travel agency contract, click Create.

 

Rate segments

To attach a segment to a rate:

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu  > Settings > Services.
  2. Click on your bookable service.
  3. Click Rates.
  4. Click on a rate to update it or create a new one.
  5. Under Segment, select the segment you want Mews to assign by default to reservations made with this rate.
  6. Save your changes:
  • If you are updating the rate, click Save.
  • If you are creating a new rate, click Create.

Note: If a segment is not assigned correctly in a booking, double-check the segment in:

  • Company profile,
  • Travel Agency profile,
  • Channel Manager setup,
  • Rate details, and
  • Stay options.

One of these is highly likely to override the set up needed for that particular booking.
