How are email languages determined?

When sending emails to guests, the system's logic and prioritization for the language are the following:

  1. The first language to be considered is the preferred language the customer chose when making the reservation.

  2. If that is missing, then the nationality of the guest is taken into consideration.

  3. If neither of these is included in the reservation, the email is sent in the default language of the property.

  4. As a last resort, the language is English (U.S.)

Exception: if the guest selects the language in the guest portal, that language is reflected on the Internals tab of the customer profile and overrides the one in the Profile tab. Only the customer can change the language in the guest portal.

What happens with customized e-mail templates?

  • If you leave the default email template, Mews sends those emails in the corresponding language.
  • If you customize an email template, you must do it for every preferred language you wish to support. If there is at least one customized template other than the default template, regardless of the language selected, the customized email is sent instead of the default one.

In the following example, the companion invitations are sent in every language, while the confirmations are sent in the languages that have been customized. If this property only customizes the English version of the confirmation email, all confirmations are sent in English.

What is the default language if a country has more than one official language?

If a country has more than one official language, the language will default to English, unless you customize the templates.

What language is used for OTA booking confirmations?

Online travel agencies' booking confirmations follow the same logic:

1. Preferred language.
2. Nationality.
3. Property language.
4. English (U.S.).
