How to offer products through distribution channels using your channel manager integration

You can offer additional products to your guests through your channel manager. This allows guests to add additional products when making a booking through a distribution channel.

Mews automatically updates the Channel Manager when you make changes in Mews. For example, if you change the price of a rate connected to the channel manager, the update happens automatically. However, when you map a product to a rate as a package rate, changing the price of the product in Mews does not trigger an automatic update.

Note: If you connect a product to a rate as a package product, changing the product’s price in Mews does not trigger an automatic update to the channel manager. Perform a manual push to ensure the rate with the connected product updates correctly.

In this article, you can learn about how to:

Offer products as part of a package through your channel manager

You can package products with rates through your channel manager, without creating a product rule. When a reservation arrives for this rate, Mews Operations automatically breaks down this packaged product into accommodation and products. For example, if Mews Operations receives a reservation totaling 120 EUR, it breaks it down to 100 EUR for the accommodation and 20 EUR for the product, based on the rate.

You can view the accommodation and product cost breakdown in the reservation and billing screens.

Note:

  • This is available for all channel manager connections. However, it works with products charged per night or per person per night only
  • Mews Operations doesn't map packaged products in a channel manager extranet or OTAs. This means packaged products are not visible in a channel manager extranet.
  • You cannot package products charged once/ per person/ per stay in the same way.

To package products once/ per person/ per stay, you can:

  • Create a package directly in a channel manager extranet. Note: Check with your channel manager first to ensure you can.
  • Map products in Mews Operations, for example, adding a mapping code to the product rather than attaching it to a rate.

This way Mews can automatically assign booked products when the reservation comes to Mews Operations.

Step 1: Map the product

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu Mews Operations Menu Icon > Marketplace > My subscriptions
  2. Locate the integration and click Edit to go to the settings.
  3. Click Channel manager products and then click Mews Operation Add Icon Channel manager product.
  4. In the Product code section, enter a unique code for this product. This needs to match the number in the channel manager extranet. Note: The system generates this number once you create the product on the channel manager in your channel manager extranet.
  5. Under Product, select the product connected to that code.
  6. Click Create.

Repeat steps 3-6 for every product that you want to send to your channel manager.

Step 2: Connect the product to a mapped rate

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu Mews Operations Menu Icon > Marketplace > My subscriptions
  2. Locate the integration and click on Edit to go to the settings.
  3. Click Channel manager rates
  4. Find the rate you want and click on the Rate code
  5. Click Mews Operations Add Icon Create, and then clickMews Operations Add Icon Channel manager product.
  6. Under Product, select the desired product.
  7. Click Create.

Repeat steps 5-7 for every product that you want to be available via your channel manager.

Repeat these steps with the same rate to package it with multiple products.

Offer additional products through your channel manager

You can upsell and allow your guests to add products to their accommodation when booking through a distribution channel. You can also set products for the system to automatically add them to a reservation in Mews Operations.

      • It is not possible to send upsell products prices to a channel manager.
      • You need to map products, that you want to upsell, in both Mews Operations and the channel manager extranet.
      • Not all channel manager integrations support upselling products. To verify you can check individual channel manager articles in our help center or contact your channel manager support.
      • You do not need to create a product rule, Mews Operations automatically adds mapped upsell products to a reservation.
      • The correct accommodation and product cost breakdown is visible in the reservation and billing.
      • This works with products of all types of charging, for example, once, per person, per person per night and per night.

Configuring upsell products in Mews Operations and channel manager

      • The charging rule needs to be the same between Mews Operations and the channel manager extranet. For example, if the charging rule in Mews Operations is Once, then you need to set it to Once in the channel manager extranet as well.
      • The charging rules in Mews Operations always prevail over the channel manager's charging rules.
      • Product prices that Mews Operations receives from a channel manager prevail over the product prices that you configure in Mews Operations.

      Map an upsell product

      1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu Mews Operations Menu Icon  > Marketplace > My subscriptions.
      2. Locate your channel manager integration and click Edit to go to the settings.
      3. Click Channel manager products

      6. Click Create

Repeat steps 4-6 for every product that you want to send to your channel manager.

Offer products through your Channel manager using product rules

If you cannot map certain products, then you need to create a product rule.

          • If you have a product rule, Mews Operations doesn't send the product price to the channel manager.
          • When a reservation arrives in Mews Operations, the system can either add the product price on top of the total price or include it. The correct breakdown of accommodation and product cost is visible in the reservation and billing. When the status of the “Exclude price from offer” check box is:

          • Checked: The system sends the price of the rate excluding the product price.
          • Unchecked: The system sends the price of the rate including the product price.

Set up product rules with negative product prices

If you have a hardcoded city tax which the system adds on top of the reservation cost, but you need to discount it for certain reservations, follow these steps:

          1. Create a product with a negative price.
          2. Check the ‘Exclude price from offer’ option.
