How to configure automatic assignment of spaces to reservations in Mews Operations

Once you create a bookable service or a space category in Mews Operations, you can configure a reservation assignment strategy. This determines how the system assigns your available spaces such as rooms or dorm beds, to incoming reservations. This ensures Mews assigns reservations efficiently according to your property's needs and your guests' preferences. 

The strategy you select applies both when you create a reservation in Mews Operations and when guests book via the Mews Booking Engine or via an Online Travel Agency. 

Note: If you set up the reservation assignment strategy for a space category, Mews Operations prioritizes the space category's strategy first.

 

To assign spaces with the reservation assignment strategy:

  1. In Mews Operations, go to the main menu > Settings > Services > Bookable services.
  2. Click the bookable service you wish to choose a reservation assignment strategy for.
  3. In the General settings section, click to select a Reservation assignment strategy: 

 

    • Bottom up: Assign new reservations starting with the lowest floors and with the lowest space numbers. Once the system assigns all spaces from one floor, it assigns new reservations to the lowest space numbers from the floor above.  
    • Preferred space features: Assign reservations to spaces based on how well they match the guests' preferred space features. 
    • Random: Assign spaces randomly, ensuring all rooms receive the same number of bookings. Note: If you have many business travelers, Mews recommends against this setting, as it splits up groups and spreads them across the property. 
    • Top down: Assign new reservations starting with the highest floors and with the highest space numbers. Once the system assigns all spaces from one floor, it assigns new reservations to the highest space numbers from the floor below. Note: Mews selects this option as the default option.
  2. Click Save.

 

Mews assigns the newly created reservations according to the selected strategy for your service. 

 

Note: You can also select a different reservation assignment strategy for each specific space category. Mews prioritizes the space category’s reservation assignment strategy over the one you select for your service.
