Cancellation policies determine how the system handles canceled reservations. These policies determine when and how a guest can cancel their reservation and any financial implications. Once you set up a cancellation policy in Mews Multi-Property, you can centrally manage it to ensure standardized policies across all properties.
Your guests can log into the guest portal and use the Cancel reservation button to cancel their reservation if they need to, without having to call the property, so it is important that you ensure your cancellation policies are up to date in Mews.

To create a cancellation policy:
- In Mews Multi-Property, go to the main menu
> Policies > Cancellation.

- In the new side-window, complete all other relevant fields as explained below. Those fields marked with * are mandatory:
General
- Name: Enter the name of the cancellation policy.
- Cancellation policy key*: Enter a unique code to track the policy across other properties.
- Bookable period*: Click to select the period during which guests can book the service. The policy only applies to services from that bookable period. For example, Night, Day, Month or Hour. Note: The bookable period must match the service where it applies.
Fee
- Percentage: If you want your cancellation fee to be a percentage of a reservation price, enter the percentage here.
- Fee extent*: Click to select which services you want to apply the cancellation fee to. For example, Nights, Products or Nights and Products. There may be additional products added to the cancellation fee. To view 'Product' consumption, click on the Items tab of the reservation. Note: You need to fill in this field for Mews to apply the cancellation policy.
- Max. periods to apply fee: If you enter a percentage, enter a maximum number of nights the cancellation fee can apply.
Note:

- If you enter "0", Mews doesn't apply any cancellation fee.
- If you leave it blank, Mews applies the cancellation fee to all canceled nights.
- The set up for Maximum nights for cancellation fee does not apply to 'Products'. This applies to nights only.
- Fixed amount: Enter a fixed amount fee.
Deadline: Choose when you want Mews to apply the cancellation fee. For example, 2 days before Arrival date. Click to select from the dropdown when you want to apply the fee.
- Click Create.
This creates a cancellation policy.
