How to take a Multicurrency card payment using Mews Terminal S1 or S2 in Mews POS

You can take a Multicurrency card payment in Mews POS using a Mews Terminal S1 or S2. Staff such as servers, bartenders, and cashiers can use it to take in-person payments. You can follow the steps below directly in the Mews POS app at your outlet whenever a guest is ready to pay by card. Once you enable Multicurrency in Mews Operations and your property meets the regional and terminal requirements, it becomes available in Mews POS automatically. Multicurrency for Mews POS:

  • Applies to in-person payments taken via Mews Terminals S1 and S2.
  • Does not apply to Digital Ordering payments.
  • Does not require additional setup in Mews POS.

You cannot disable Multicurrency for POS only. If you disable it in Mews Operations, you also disable it for Mews POS. If you are unsure whether Multicurrency for POS is active, contact Mews Support.

Prerequisites

To take a Multicurrency card payment in Mews POS, your property must:

  • Use Mews Payments for card payments.
  • Enable Multicurrency.
  • Operate in a supported POS country, excluding Luxembourg, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
  • Use Mews Terminals S1 or S2 for in-person payments.

 

How to take a Multicurrency card payment using Mews Terminal S2 in Mews POS

To take a card payment using the Mews POS app:

  1. In the Mews app, find the order you want to charge.
  2. Tap >.
  3. On the payment screen, tap Card.

  1. Present the Mews Terminal to your guest.
  2. If you enable tipping for your card payments, your guest can choose to add a tip using the Mews Terminal. 
  3. On the Mews Terminal, ask the guest to tap, insert, or swipe their card. They can chose to pay in:
    • Guest currency: Which includes a clearly displayed Multicurrency markup fee.
    • Property currency: Which does not have a Multicurrency fee.

  1. After a successful charge, a confirmation screen appears.

 

This completes a Multicurrency card payment in Mews POS.

The guest receipt shows the amount in both property and guest currencies, the exchange rate or margin used, the Multicurrency markup fee, and the required legal text to ensure full transparency. Internally, Multicurrency details appear in Mews POS Payments report as well as Mews Operations reports, such as the Payment Report and Payout report. In the Payout report, you can find the markup fee listed in the Commission column.
