A channel manager updates multiple online distribution channels in real-time. It manages customer data, price rates, and available rooms, and saves you time, keeping your inventory up to date, and increasing online bookings.
You can use one of the many channel manager integrations in the Mews Marketplace to connect an external channel manager to Mews Operations.
The main function of the connection between the channel manager and Mews Operations, is to:
- send availability and rates from your property to external channels, and
- receive reservations created through external channels.
This article covers step-by-step instructions to:
- connect channel manager integrations from Mews Marketplace,
- update space category and rate mappings,
- connect space categories to rates,
- map products and connect them to rates,
- map companies and travel agency contracts (optional),
- map age categories (optional), and
- test and enable the integration.
Note
- If you're already live with Mews, Mews does not configure the integrations for you.
- If you have any problems fixing the mapping errors within Mews, contact the Mews Support Team by submitting a support ticket through the Mews Digital Assistant.
- You need to have Admin permissions in Mews Operations to connect an integration in Mews Marketplace, and update channel manager settings, such as when you want to add a new Rate code.
In this article, you can learn how to connect, configure, map, and test your channel manager integration in the following steps:
- Step 1: Connect the integration
- Step 2: Configure the integration
- Step 3: Configure channel manager mapping
- Step 4: Test the integration
- Step 5: Enable the integration
- To disconnect the integration
Step 1: Connect the integration
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace.
- Under Categories, click Distribution.
- Locate the channel manager integration you want to connect, then click Explore. Alternatively, you can search for the integration using the search box at the top left side of the screen.
- If you have more than one bookable service in Mews Operations, select the appropriate service from the drop-down. Note: The drop-down is not visible if you have only one bookable service.
- Click Connect integration.
Note: If you have multiple bookable services, you need to connect and configure a separate channel manager integration for each service.
Step 2: Configure the integration
Once you connect the channel manager integration, configure the integration as detailed below:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace > My subscriptions.
- Locate the integration and click Edit to go to the settings.
- In the settings screen, enter details for the following fields:
- Enabled: Check this box to enable or disable the integration. Note: Enable the integration only after you configure everything and complete the testing with the channel manager in step 4.
- Name: Enter an identifiable name of your choice. This is important when you have more than one bookable service. Note: The system adds any name changes to the end of the existing integration name. For example, if you change ‘Expedia’ to ‘The Grand Mews Hotel’ the system changes it to ‘Expedia The Grand Mews Hotel’.
- Channel manager code: Enter the code your channel manager provides. Note: Depending on the specific integration, this field might also display as Customer ID, Property ID, or Hotel ID. Your channel manager provides the information for the relevant field name.

- Download reservations: Select if you want Mews Operations to send a request to the channel manager for all pending reservations.
- Download future reservations: If you select this option, the system downloads all existing future reservations once you activate the integration. If you do not select this option, no existing future reservations are downloaded, even after activation.

Once you select this, the reservation source displays all source types that the system receives. Note: Mews Operations enables this option by default for new integrations to ensure accurate reporting on installation.
- Use age category in reservations: Select if you use one of the channel managers Mews Operations supports for receiving reservations containing guests of different age categories. Mapping companies and travel agency contracts (optional)
Note: This step is optional. You should complete this only if you want reservations received from the channel manager to be assigned to a company by Mews Operations.
Mapping travel agencies enables Mews Operations to automatically detect and handle any new reservations from that agency. When combined with the Enable granular reporting option, as detailed in step 2, the reservation source details display all source types that Mews receives. This article explains mapping most of the specific reservation sources and travel agency mapping.
For each travel agency profile, you would like to map, complete the steps in Setting up travel agencies here.
Mapping channel manager age categories (optional)
Note:
- This step is optional. You should only complete this if you want reservations from the channel manager to include age category information
- Not all channel manager integrations support receiving reservations containing guests’ age categories.
To receive reservations with age categories through your channel manager and correctly allocate each guest with a respective age category, you need to map them in the channel manager age category mapping.
You can learn more about which channel managers support age categories and mapping age categories here.
Mapping connecting spaces
Before you map connecting rooms, configure them in the space categories settings.
For example, to set up a parent room, learn more in our help article How to set up a parent room?
To ensure Mews sends availability updates correctly, map both space categories in the integration:
-
The parent space represents the full connected room.
-
The child space represents the individual room or rooms.
Note:
- The parent space depends on the availability of the child space. Both must be available for the parent space to be bookable.
- If the parent space is reserved, the child space cannot be booked separately. If the child space is booked, the parent space also becomes unavailable.
After mapping both space categories in the Mews Marketplace:
-
Go to your Channel Manager extranet.
-
Map the parent and child space categories there as well.
Note: For help with configuration in the channel manager, contact your channel manager support team directly.
Step 4: Test the integration
Testing the integration allows you to check whether you configured the integration correctly. You can test this with a small set of reservations for the next 7 days.
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace > My subscriptions.
- Locate the channel manager integration, then click Edit to go to the settings.
- Click Manual actions.
- Under Push inventory:
-
-
- From: Select today’s date.
- To: Select one week from today.
-
- Click Send, and then refresh the page.
Note:
- If you have mapping errors, your selections under Enabled operations in settings are no longer selected. Mews Operations sends a detailed list of the errors to the address entered in the Notification email field. Fix the errors detailed in the email and repeat steps 1-6. Learn more in our help article Understanding channel manager notification emails in Mews Operations.
- If you need to contact the Mews support team, they may ask for your channel manager integration mapping file. You can learn where to find this here.
- If there are no mapping errors, log in to your channel manager account and compare the availability, rates, and restrictions to those in Mews Operations.
Step 5: Enable the integration
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace > My subscriptions.
- Locate the channel manager integration, then click Edit to go to the settings.
- Select the Enabled box.
- Under Enabled operations, select Upload availability, Upload rates, Upload restrictions, and Receive reservations.
- Click Save.
- Click on Manual actions.
- Under Push inventory:
-
-
- From: Select today's date.
- To: Select 365 days from today.
-
- Click Send.
This connects your channel manager, mapped spaces, rates, and products. This distributes your property’s rates and availability and makes them available through the channel managers’ online distribution channels.
If you no longer want to use the channel manager integration, you can also disconnect it following these steps:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Marketplace > My subscriptions.
- Locate the channel manager integration, then click Edit to go to the settings.
- Uncheck the Enabled box.
- Under Enabled operations, remove Download reservations or Download future reservations. Note:
-
- The options available vary depending on your channel manager integration.
- Important: If you keep the Download reservations or Receive reservations operation enabled, Mews continues to receive reservations even when you disconnect the integration.
- Click Save.
- Contact your channel manager support and request that they disconnect the integration.
This disconnects the integration. Mews stops sending inventory updates and accepting reservations, but does not remove inventory sent to the channel manager before disconnection.
