You can use restrictions in Mews to prevent guests from making bookings or reservations when they meet certain conditions – giving you more control over your reservations. You can only apply restrictions to stays, not products. You can learn more about restrictions here.
You can set up different kinds of restrictions in Mews, such as:
An advance booking restriction prevents guests from making a reservation at your property, unless it is made a certain number of days in advance, for example, 6 months. The advance is defined as the number of days between the reservation creation date and the the reservation start date.
You can apply the restriction to:
- Rates, i.e., all rates or specific rates
- Rate groups
- Space categories
- Space types
You can choose to restrict by stay, arrival or departure, when creating an advance booking restriction. If you choose to restrict by:
- Stay: Guests can make a reservation for nights during the restricted period only by a certain number of days in advance.
- Arrival: Guests can make a reservation starting during the restricted period only for a certain number of days in advance.
- Departure: Guests can make a reservation that ends during the restricted period only by a certain number of days in advance.
You can create and delete your restrictions in Mews operations either individually, or in bulk, and can edit them at any time. You can learn more about managing restrictions here.
Note:
- When you create restrictions, you don’t need to create separate restrictions for the channel manager.
- Mews applies the same restrictions you create for the booking engine and reservations screen to the channel manager, provided the rate or space category is available to it.
In this article you can learn about how to:
Create a minimum advance booking restriction
You can create a minimum advance booking restriction to block guests from making a reservation a minimum number of days before their reservation starts.
When you have a minimum advance booking restriction in place, for the system to accept a reservation, it needs to meet or exceed the minimum number of days you set before arrival.
To create a minimum advance booking restriction:
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Services.
- Click on your bookable service, for example, Stay.
- From the Settings menu, click Restrictions.
- Click
Restriction.
- Restriction type*: Choose to restrict by either stay, arrival or departure.
- Active until the start of and ‘Active until the end of’: Enter start and end dates for your restriction. The restriction applies to both the start and end date, as well as all dates in between. Note: If you want to create a restriction for one day, you need to enter the same date for the start and end.
- On days*: Select the days you want the restriction to apply on.
- Rates and Spaces: Choose the type of rate or space restrictions you want to apply. Refer to the reference article for an in-depth explanation of fields on this screen.
Note:
-
- If you do not select an option, the restriction applies to all. For example, if you don't select a rate, the restriction applies to all your rates.
- You can make multiple selections within each space category. To do so, click the dropdown to select those you want to restrict.
- Exceptions: Under Minimum advance, enter the minimum number of days in advance that guests need to make a reservation before their arrival, i.e., the check-in time of your property. Note: Restriction does not apply if the reservation matches the minimum advance. For example, a reservation made 4 days in advance is not blocked by a Minimum advance restriction of 4 days.
- Click Continue.
On the Review changes screen that follows, you can view a summary of all restrictions you are creating or affecting by your actions. To make any edits, click Go back.
