In Mews Operations, you can split an individual reservation into two distinct reservations based on a selected date. This allows you to manage each part separately, keeping the accuracy of records and billing without the necessity to create a new reservation.
You may want to split a reservation in Mews Operations if:
- A guest moves into a new space during their stay.
- A reservation has different numbers of guests staying on different days.
- You want to apply different rates per day.
Note: You cannot split group reservations nor move a reservation to another group. In this case, you need to cancel the reservation and create a new one in the desired group. You can learn how to add a reservation to a group here.
What reservations can you split
You can only split individual reservations when your guest is in-house, after the hotel staff checked them in, or after the guest checked in via Kiosk. Note: For online checked-in guests, you still need to check them in through Mews Operations or Mews Kiosk to be able to split the reservation.
- a reservation on the first or last day of a guest’s stay.
- a future reservation. Note: For future stays, you can shorten the original reservation and create a new reservation to cover the remaining time.
When you split a reservation, Mews automatically:
- Shortens the original reservation.
- Creates a duplicate reservation that begins when the first reservation ends. Note: Without the 'Proportional charging of partial months' setting enabled, the system splits monthly reservations from the beginning of the month, regardless of the selected date.
- Groups the two reservations together.
- In Mews Operations, in the search bar, type in the guest’s name or space number.
- Click on the reservation you want to split and then click on the Properties tab.
- Under Split reservation, click to select the date that the guest begins their stay in the new space.
- Click OK.
You can now view both resulting reservations as part of the same group on your Reservations management screen.
Note:
- Products charged once remain within the original reservation. Mews posts products charged per bookable period, for example, per night or month, according to the new reservations’ dates.
- Mews treats each part as a distinct reservation. If you need to apply tax adjustments after a certain number of nights, you can shorten the subsequent reservation and create a new one with the adjusted rate.
- Check out the original reservation, and
- Check in the new reservation.
Note: You can split a reservation after you close the attached stay items. In this case, the system cancels the transactions on the original reservation and automatically creates rebates for items now attached to the new reservations. You need to close the bill again.
