Why can’t I select a rate when creating a reservation in Mews Operations?

You create reservations in Mews Operations to confirm guest stays and assign rates. You create reservations in the New Reservation Screen or the Timeline. When a rate appears in the rate list, but you cannot select it, it is because the system blocks the booking and prevents you from completing the reservation. Why you cannot select a rate

The system blocks rate selection for two reasons. The system checks both reasons every time you create a reservation:

  1. The rate has an active restriction
  2. You do not have permission to override restrictions

 

Reason 1: The rate has an active restriction

Some rates include restrictions that limit when and how you book them. These restrictions apply to specific dates and stay conditions.

Common restriction types include:

  • Closed to stay
  • Closed to arrival
  • Minimum length of stay

The system shows restricted rates in the rate list and blocks selection when the reservation does not meet the restriction rules.

 

For example, a minimum length of stay restriction blocks a two-night reservation when the rate requires three nights.

Reason 2: You do not have permission to override restrictions

Only users with the Override restrictions permission can select rates that include restrictions.

If you do not have this permission:

  • You cannot select the restricted rate
  • You cannot continue creating the reservation

 

This behavior applies in the New Reservation Screen and the Timeline.

 

Note: The Override restrictions permission stays disabled by default and requires manual assignment to your user role. Learn more in the help article Managing user roles and permissions.

 

When you have the Override restrictions permission and select a restricted rate, the system adds a confirmation step.

 

The system:

  • Highlights the restricted rate in the rate selection area
  • Opens a confirmation modal
  • Displays the restriction type

 

This confirmation step ensures you understand that the rate includes a restriction before you continue.

 

You continue creating the reservation using the selected rate.

 

How to resolve the issue

Get permission to override restrictions

Ask a user who manages roles and permissions to update your role:

  1. Open User roles in Mews Operations
  2. Select your role
  3. Enable Override restrictions
  4. Click Save

You select restricted rates during reservation creation.

 

Select a rate without restrictions

If you do not need to override restrictions:

  • Select a rate without restrictions, or

  • Adjust the stay dates to meet the restriction rules

You continue creating the reservation.

Update or remove the restriction

If the restriction no longer applies:

  1. Open Restrictions in Mews Operations
  2. Locate the restriction for the relevant rate and dates
  3. Edit or remove the restriction

You select the rate without overriding restrictions.
