Online check-out allows guests to complete their check-out formalities in the Guest Portal before their departure, such as:
- Close and review their bills
- Complete outstanding payments
This reduces manual work for staff, saving time for both guests and employees. By checking out online, guests avoid long queues at departure, ensuring a stress-free experience.
Online check-out allows guests to choose their own time and manner of departure. Guests can check out earlier than their set departure time, leading to more early check-in upsell opportunities.
Note: Online check-out is not yet available in Italy and Portugal.

Step 1: Enable online check-out
You can set up the online check-out within the setup page for your bookable services in Mews Operations.
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Services.
- Click a Bookable service, for example, Stay or Accommodation. If you have services such as meeting rooms, co-working spaces set up, you can tailor-make the check out for these services too.
- In Visit Options, click the following options:
- Enable online check-out to send out online check-out emails to guests. Note: This is mandatory to set up the Guest Portal.
- Enable automatic check-out (for online check-outs) to automatically check out reservations in Mews Operations that are checked out online. Note: Mews strongly recommend that you enable this option. If not, you have to manually check out the reservations in Mews Operations.
- Click Save.
Step 2: Add a check out message
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Services.
- Click a Bookable service.
- Click Documents and then click + .
- In Type, click to select Instructions to check out. Note: You can learn more about how to set up the various guest-facing documents including your Terms & Conditions and Privacy policy available under the Type option here.
- Click Create.
- Enter your check out instructions and click Save.
This message appears to the guest on the last screen of the online check-out process.
Step 3: Allow guests to pay for additional services
If you offer products or services that are typically claimed and paid for after consumption, for example, minibar items, you can allow guests to add these items to their own bills before they pay and check out.
- In Mews Operations, go to the main menu
> Settings > Services.
- Click to select an Additional Service.
- In Promotions, click to select During check out.
- Click Save.
- Repeat steps 1-4 for all services you want to offer during online check-out.
Step 4: Customize check out email
If online check-out is available for the reservation, Mews sends the Online check-out email to the reservation owner according to the timing you specify in the relevant bookable service's settings. You can partially customize this email.
